Harnish and Pauls to host “The Later Tonight Show”
MennoNight Live is not the only late night show on campus this semester. David Harnish and Abe Pauls, both seniors, will be hosting “The Later Tonight Show,” an Hour After event, on Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m. in Newcomer 19. This event is free to all Goshen College students. The pair wanted to host an Hour After event but agreed that they did not want to perform music for an entire night. Instead, they decided to create a variety show that will include monologues, guest interviews with various Goshen College faculty members, interactive games with the audience and musical...

Tann to perform hipster-themed Hour After
Nathaniel Tann will perform for the first Hour After event of the year this Friday and Saturday evening in Newcomer 19. Tann, a senior biology and psychology double major, is a guitarist and vocalist who has been advertising his show via Facebook with the name, “My Hipster-tastic Hour After.” But what does this mean? Obscure throwbacks from the 90s? Tunes from lesser-known musicals like “Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog?” An eclectic blend of instruments playing original music? Exactly. But for Tann, many of the songs that he will be playing are standards. “A lot of the influences I have come...

Menno Night Live is night of talent, night of hope
Talent was flowing like a river Saturday night. “Tonight is a night to take the talent we already know is there, and make it visible for all to see,” said Joel Kawira, a member of Campus Activities Council, who played President Obama in the show's introduction. This semester's Kick-Off, entitled "Menno Night Live,” was also a demonstration of the support and love Goshen College had to offer for its own Eddie Mayorga, a college employee. A version of the show was put on at 7 p.m. for community members, which Mayorga attended. A 10 p.m. production was presented for students. Proceeds from...

La República: Helping people find common ground
Campus Activities Council, CAC, is proud to present its first hour after, La República on Friday, November 4th at 10:00 pm at New Comer 19. La Republica is a Latin rock band inspired by musicians like Caifanes, Jaguares, Manu Chao, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Latin American music and the Beatles. Rafael Chavez and Daniel Moya, recent Goshen College graduates, started playing together during their time at Goshen College. Daniel’s brother, Juan, later joined them when he came to GC. Leah Yoder and Adam Nussbaum were also part of the band’s development. As they began to play a lot of Latin American...

Pope and Steen’s hour after to be packed with student talent
Looking for something to do this weekend? Look no further than Newcomer 19, where beats will be dropping and the party will be hopping as Jeremy Pope and Carl Steen, both seniors, host their “Party Hardy” hour-after. It’s called “Party Hardy” for a reason: they will be expecting a lot of dancing from their audience. “It’s all going to be uptempo,” says Pope. “It’s just going to be fun. Too fun.” “This hour after features some R&B tunes, takes us back to the 90’s, and includes some current tracks,” said Angelica Lehman, a junior. Lehman will be providing vocals on...

Join the adventure!
Looking for an opportunity to dress up after dark? This Friday and Saturday provide a chance to dig out the frills and enjoy the next round of Hour After, with Nate Day and Aaron Kaufmann’s ‘Eclectic Adventure’. Day and Kaufmann, seniors, will deliver another night of music, with a mix of eclectic, folk, rap, comedic hymns and even a medley by The Beatles. The event is hosted by the CAC. Chagan Sanathu, a member of CAC, promises the night will be full of surprises. “It’s a fun space to come see your peers showing off their talents in an informal setting,” said Sanathu....

Angie and the Band to lead first Hour After of the year
After much anticipation, Goshen College’s first Hour After event of the 2010-2011 school year has been scheduled for 10 p.m. on Feb. 11 in Newcomer 19. With the help of the Campus Activities Council (CAC), junior Angelica Lehman and her musical ensemble, “Angie and the Band,” will take the stage. Hour After events are traditionally inspired, run and performed by students for their peers. “It’s a time to show your talent with skits and songs,” said senior CAC member Peter Gary. When an individual is interested in putting on a performance, members of CAC assist with funding, establishing venue details and organizing...

GoProv comedy troupe entertains GC crowd
On Saturday, November 6th, Campus Activities Council (CAC) invited local comedy troupe GoProv to present an evening full of jokes and laughs for Goshen College students in Newcomer Center. Using a style similar to the popular improvisation show “Who’s Line is it Anyway?,” the four-member comedy troupe led a variety of improv activities that encouraged audience participation. Afterward, students were free to tell jokes, perform skits, sing songs and share other comedic talents. GoProv is an improv group that was formed a few years ago as an off-shoot of a comedy performed at the New World Arts theater in...

DeCompress from stress at Club DC
Knowing that students are growing more stressed as the semester nears its end, Campus Activities Council is planning an evening to take a break from drafting papers, studying for exams and reading hundreds of textbook pages in Club Decompress, or "Club DC." On Friday, March 26 at 10 P.M., Newcomer 19 will open its doors and the Kickoff-like show will commence at 10:30 p.m. Students will perform a variety of music including performances from the Dynamics, Elijah Martens and the Stud Muffins, James Green and Isaac Lederach and more. Tim Blaum, member of Campus Activities Council, said, “The goal of...

Next Hour After: “Parsley Pants and Pom-Pom Socks”
This Friday and Saturday, Anna Pasquarello and friends will be hosting an Hour After entitled “Parsley Pants and Pom-Pom Socks.” Unlike the past couple Hour Afters, this one will be a more traditional Hour After with mostly acoustic-style music. “I chose selections from some of my current favorite female vocalists such as K.T. Tunstall, Corrine Bailey Rae and Lisa Hannigan,” said Pasquarello. “I’m also doing a couple songs from JRL, a musician who used to perform in Goshen. As a fellow musician, the things he talked about in his music meant a lot to me. I wanted to bring him...

Kick Off brings GC talent and bathroom passes
Goshen College students were surprised at Spring Kick Off last Saturday. Not only because of Goshen’s longstanding tradition of talent, but because of the new policies. No coats, no bags and don’t forget your bathroom pass! The Campus Activities Council (CAC) enforced the policies for two reasons: to follow other standards and to prevent problems from previous years. It is standard procedure for music performances that people hang up their coats in coat room provided. “We were just following suit,” Tim Blaum, of CAC, said. Goshen College has had numerous problems with spilled drinks, chewing tobacco on the floor and...

Hour Afters Coming Up
The Campus Activities Counsel has four exciting Hour Afters in store for the campus. On Friday the 13th at 10:00 p.m., a Pop Choir Coffeehouse will feature a cappella singing from the student group “The Dynamics.” The group will perform selections from artists Justin Timberlake, The Beatles, Imogen Heap, The Wailin’ Jennys and more. Patrick Ressler, a junior, organized the event. The concert is currently sold out, but hopeful students without tickets can still come to the door of Newcomer on Friday and perhaps find an extra seat. On Sunday the 15th at 8:00 p.m., a musical performance called “Coming...

Midweek Mayhem a “Bouncy” Event
It’s sometime around the age of thirteen that McDonald’s stops being everyone’s favorite fast food restaurant. The fries taste the same and the hamburgers don’t change, but something does. It always happens—soon after kids realize that they are too old to play in the ball pit and too big to climb through the tunnels. A little piece of childhood gets put in a box, forgotten about, and never fully resurfaces. Perhaps that is why students had so many complaints about Midweek Mayhem (also known as the ticket blitz) last Thursday evening where students were able to purchase tickets for three...

Hour Afters, coffeehouses yet to come
Every year the Campus Activities Council (CAC) hosts several events that highlight student talent and help students bond campus-wide, but this fall, many students have been discussing how there have been fewer of their favorite events, Hour Afters. Some students even have concerns that with a lack of these particular campus activities, students might be more likely to participate in weekend drinking. The funny thing is, there have been the same amount of CAC events thus far this year as there have been during the past several fall semesters: the Sing and Swing and Kick-off and an extra party after...

CAC: addicted to rap at Monday Night Live
The Goshen student body witnessed CAC members’ attempts to conquer their rap music addictions in the annual Monday Night Live on Saturday night. This year’s CAC includes two seniors, Tim Blaum and Jon Tamrat, junior Rachel Mast, and sophomores Leah Thill and Billy Funk. Michele Fanfair-Steury, director of student activities, advises the group. Monday Night Live is a way for student-run programs on campus to make themselves known. Student senate started things off with a cooking and cleaning video in the new AVI Fresh facilities. Latino Student Union, the Black Student Union, Eco-pax, and the International Student Club all used...
