Student Senate changes provide greater student representation
Student Senate is making changes to be more efficient and effective this year by having better student representation. Senate will be asking what they call “the Big Seven” affinity groups to be involved this year by having a member of each of their groups serve as an advocate in Senate meetings. The affinity groups are Advocates for LGBTQ, Black Student Union, Commuter Student Association, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Goshen Student Women's Association, International Student Club and Latino Student Union. GRID cards offered
This Friday evening from 4-7 p.m., The Center for Healing and Hope (CHH) will offer Goshen Resident Identification (GRID) Cards to Goshen College students at a discounted price at Java Junction. CHH is taking off $5 off of each card, and Student Senate is taking off an additional $5, bringing the card’s price to $15 per student. Student Senate reshapes, sets goals
Goshen College’s Student Senate members vary in age, majors, hobbies and interests, but there is one thing they are all passionate about: changing Goshen College for the better. The Senate is comprised of ten members, with five cabinet members and five at large members. The five cabinet members are Abby King as president, Elijah Lora as vice president, Jace Longenecker as treasurer, Kethayun Mehta as head of publicity, and Nat Dick as student organization liaison. Who is Student Senate?
Is there something you want to change at Goshen College? Talk to Student Senate. Student Senate is a student-led group on campus that has a number of tasks, the biggest of which is being a voice for students. They are responsible for listening to student concerns and talking with administration to make changes as well as funding and supporting student clubs. High-energy senate raring to go
Following elections two weeks ago, Student Senate is hard at work. Last week was the group’s first meeting with both the cabinet at-large representatives. The newly elected at-large reps include seniors Peter Meyer-Reimer and Halle Steingass, and sophomores Danielle Plank, Valentin Calvillo and Reena Ramos. New members join the cabinet, who were elected last spring. Senior Ben Shelly continues in his fourth year on Student Senate, where he now serves as president. GC Administration turns down three Student Senate proposals
The evening of Wednesday, April 15 marked the final meeting of the 2014-2015 Goshen College Student Senate. Senate’s year has been filled with proposals regarding the relationship between students and the Human Resource department, gender dynamics on campus, availability of ice to students, a fourth-floor connector printer, vending machines for feminine hygiene products, the need for gender-neutral bathroom signage, and several other topics.
