Lehman’s whole “New World”
When senior Matt Lehman began his theater internship last fall, he had high hopes. Taking a break from working with the Goshen College theater department this semester, Lehman frequently commutes a few blocks from campus to New World Arts in downtown Goshen. Lehman has spent the last few months fulfilling the 120-hour internship requirement that is required to graduate with a theater major. Thus far, joining the crew at New World Arts, a community theater company, has proved to be a valuable experience. Although New World is local, Lehman’s time there has opened his eyes to an entirely different way...

Through the Ears of a DJ
Rachel Halder, a senior also known as Rae, has been part of the Goshen College radio station, The Globe, since 2006. She began her education in radio with the Communications 190 course: Introduction to Radio. The course was “a thrilling experience,” said Halder, who met with a reporter while composing a list of songs for her show, which airs every Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. It wasn’t until Christmas break of her freshman year that she realized that she had an “obsession with music” as she put it, especially in the “indie,” or independent music, genre. This “obsession” helped...

Haarer seeks breath of God through radio, poetry
Carl Haarer, one of Boston’s top radio reporters, can play the guitar and piano, sing, write poetry and speak theology. He did all these things – and talked about journalism -- on Tuesday in his Umble Master Class keynote address. Haarer, who works for WBZ, said he had no idea he would become a journalist when he graduated from Goshen College with an English major in 1979. He described his job as a radio reporter as similar to being a student: you listen, learn, process and try to find meaning in new-found knowledge. The key, he said, is to be...

Radio Glenn to air on Friday
On Friday, a radio show for Glenn Schumacher will air on from 91.1 the Globe from 7-9 p.m. Music has always been important to Schumacher, and is currently an integral part in his healing process following a recent canoe accident (read about it here). One of the first preferences Schumacher was able to communicate during his recovery was in regard to music being played. There was some slow, soothing music playing and Schumacher squeezed his sister Hannah's hand. She asked Schumacher if he wanted something else played, and he squeezed her hand again. They put on some more upbeat electronic...
