The Globe receives first-time nomination
For the first time in its history, Goshen College’s 91.1 The Globe has been named a College Media Association Pinnacle Award finalist for Four-Year Radio Station of the Year in the broadcasting category. In addition to the radio station award, nine students and 2020 graduates are up for individual CMA awards. Kadie Daye, Benjamin Cotton, Nathan Pauls, Bryce Stopher, William Troyer, Alyson Prigge, Jeremiah Sherrill, Tanner Camp and Riley Friesner are all CMA finalists. Goshen College dominates IBS awards
Goshen College broadcasting students won five national first-place awards from 19 nominations this past Saturday, at the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Multimedia Conference in New York City. The team of students from 91.1 The Globe and Globe TV came home with more first place awards than any other college at the event. Communication students win broadcasting awards
Goshen College broadcasting students Riley Friesner and Kadie Spoor won awards from the Broadcasting Education Association’s 2020 Festival of Media Arts, earning them a spot at an awards ceremony and conference in Las Vegas in April. Friesner, a senior, won first place for best on-air personality and an award of excellence in the PSA/promotional/commercial category. GC broadcasting students rack up more awards
Goshen College students have received six awards from the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Festival of Media Arts, a yearly national competition of all colleges and universities in the United States with media and broadcasting programs. Broadcasting students win awards
Members of The Correspondent, The Globe and FiveCore Media travelled down to Indianapolis to attend the the Indiana Association of Schools Broadcasters (IASB) annual awards luncheon. Both the television and radio station teams won a total of 18 awards from the 15 audio and visual categories that were available. Goshen College’s communication department took home gold from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) awards, as well as the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) awards. Over spring break, representatives from Goshen College’s radio station 91.1 FM The Globe traveled to New York City on Saturday to receive awards from IBS. The new voice of Spartan basketball
Within months of graduation from Goshen College, Dalton Shetler is serving as the host of Michigan State University’s Spartan Network. His primary responsibility is covering basketball. Shetler’s career started with a recorder, a bench and coaches. Shetler called varsity basketball games for his high school as a freshman and then moved on to broadcasting on ii.com with people from DeKalb County, Indiana. The Correspondent makes a team effort
The Correspondent, Goshen College’s student news program, offers real-life experience to GC students aspiring to work in television. The Correspondent is led by juniors Karina Flores, who serves as the news director, and Dalton Shetler, operations manager. The student-focused news is produced every other week and provides another way for students to get news about what is happening on campus and in the broader Goshen community. The Globe crew goes to New York
This past Saturday night, staff members of 9.11 the Globe, Goshen College’s very own radio station, found themselves surrounded by some of the nation’s best in the business. The 75th annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) conference was held in New York City this year, and 15 GC students, along with Jason Samuel and Kyle Hufford, represented Goshen College well. For the second year in a row, Goshen College’s radio station, WGCS 91.1 The Globe and GCTV have been named Radio School of the Year and Television School of the Year, respectively, by the IASB College Broadcasting Competition. Student video production unit underway
This fall the communication department is launching FiveCore Media, the first video production unit at Goshen College to cater to both in-house and external clients. Kyle Hufford, a media professional and producer, has been hired as general manager of the venture and will oversee all video production projects. “The main goal of FiveCore Media is to provide students an environment where they can get professional video experience, working with real clients,” said Hufford. WGCS named best college radio in nation
The Goshen College radio station 91.1 FM The Globe was named the “Best College Station in the Nation” at the 71st Annual Conference of the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) last week, beating out last year's winner, DePaul University of Chicago. Additionally, several Goshen College broadcasting students in television and radio racked up various other awards in local and national competitions. Landis-Eigsti receives national broadcasting award
Jacob Landis-Eigsti, a junior, was groggily sifting through his e-mail inbox before his 8 a.m. class a few weeks ago when he stumbled upon an email from the Broadcast Education Association (BEA). His music video “Beautiful,” the email said, had won second place in BEA's 2011 national competition—quite an achievement, considering that he was competing with about 1,000 other film students across the country.
