College Undergoing Reaccreditation
Goshen College is in the midst of reaccreditation, a process that evaluates whether GC is still functioning correctly and effectively as an institution. The Higher Learning Commission (HLC), one of five regional accreditors, works with GC. HLC judges an institution based on certain criteria such as, conformity to federal demands and Assumed Practices and also imposes several Obligations of Affiliation. The criteria and Assumed Practices cover things like an institution’s commitment to its mission statement, integrity, quality, adequate educational resources, as well as a commitment to evaluation and improvement, financial sustainability and systematic planning. The Obligations of Affiliation address transparency...

Super Tuesday Grooms Young Professionals
The college Church-Chapel fellowship hall was a staging ground for budding new professionals last Tuesday afternoon. "This year went like clockwork," said GC director of career services, Anita Yoder. At Super Tuesday, 64 students met with 18 interviewers over a few short hours, and each interview lasted roughly 30 to 45 minutes. The interviews were modeled after a real-life interview scenario, in which questions were strategically asked of the students to gauge their skills as listeners, problem solvers and conflict resolvers. After a 20-minute interview, the students were given advice on how to improve their interviewing skills and how to...

This combination makes it possible for students in those fields to add a major or minor without much complication. Michelle Horning, professor of accounting and chair of the business department, said the major is...

Across six school districts and with 28 student teachers, Goshen College’s elementary and secondary education majors have been teaching since August 2. “What’s so exciting is that our student teachers are starting from day one,” said Karen Kreider Yoder, an associate education professor. “They’re out there doing it.” Kevin Gary, an associate education professor and director of secondary education, said, “Teaching is a craft that uses the old apprentice model. That’s what is exciting, daunting, and important about student teaching.” The student teachers began their semester, in true teacher fashion, by attending meetings. Fast dialogue ensues between Maldonado, Derek Johnson, a junior, and Solongo Gonchigsuren, also a first-year, as well as their two tutees, Jesus Padilla and Jordan...
