The twelfth annual “Arts on the Millrace” festival is coming back again on Sept. 6 in Goshen. Arts on the Millrace is a festival that highlights local artists of all specialties alongside musicians. The event will be live on the Millrace Canal Trail from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Saturday.  Two of the vendors that have ties to Goshen College are Julia Hitt ’25 and Ryan Snider, a senior art major.   Hitt will be at stall 33 selling ceramics — plates, bowls, keychains and earrings. Joseph Mounsithiraj had a full summer: in April he graduated from Goshen College with a B.A. in art and a theater minor. Then he capped off his undergraduate career by taking the college’s Arts in London course — attending lectures, galleries, theater and music performances. Last weekend, The Riverbend Film Festival made its return to the historic Goshen Theater. This marked the 22nd year that the festival took place. The Goshen College Music Department is saying farewell to 28 active seniors.   The painting I made is based on the song “House of Spirits” by The Veils. It is one I discovered over a year ago that has continuously stuck with me since. There’s so much imagery that I attempted to apply in my art piece in order to give life to the song.  Even though I’ve never fully enjoyed abstract art, creating this painting opened my eyes to a different outlet that doesn’t particularly need to be “perfect.” I hope that comes across to others as it does for me.

For this piece, I was assigned to create a self portrait, something I typically steer clear from as an artist. It was quite challenging as I wasn’t used to staring at myself for long periods of time and I felt uncomfortable. Last Friday, Goshen and Dragons hosted storytellers and adventurers alike to celebrate their shared love of the tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. The spring musical, “RENT,” made its debut last weekend with a breathtaking performance given by the cast and crew at the John S. Umble Center.
