I am a first generation college student, born to undocumented  immigrants who give everything they can and more so that I can succeed. I can never thank my family, friends, and community enough for helping shape me into the man I am today. Viva Mexico. Y Viva La Raza.

Being a Latino here in the United States is an incredible thing to be proud of. It means you are the result of unimaginable determination and sacrifice out of nothing but love. Being Hispanic means being shaped by love. However, being shaped by love does not always protect us from hate. “Esperanza” represents the hope that we carry as Hispanics that maybe one day, we will rest, that as immigrants, maybe one day we will be seen as people. Being Latino means that you wake up every day and speak up, even if no one is listening. “Esperanza” pictures this through a student’s poster. No matter what, we will always be here and stand up proud.
