When I was young and would stumble upon a cookie tin while searching through drawers, I would pop the lid off, struggling, trembling, without patience as the lid would always feel as if it was sealed with glue. However, I knew it would all be worth it after getting my hands on the butter cookies it concealed. But to my disappointment, it would never have cookies. Instead, it was used as a container for needles, pins, and sewing supplies. I never understood the reason, until my present years I realized how resistant those containers would be!

Disappointment through reused cookie tins and many other containers, such as butter or yogurt containers, seemed to not only be an original experience, but one in many Hispanic childhoods. Now as I look back, those cookie tins remind me of the warmth of being able to look forward to the simple things while enjoying our interesting customs and cultures without having to worry about injustices.
