Stanley Bernard King was born in 1939 in the Indian city of Dhamtari. Now, he is the head coach of the men’s tennis team at Goshen College. King spent the first five years of his life in India while his parents, who were U.S. citizens, were involved in education there. King first came to the United States when he was 5 years old on a U.S. troop ship. First year student Aritha Weerasinghe made his mark on the tennis team this year, sending his team to the semifinals where he played 3rd, 4th and 5th positions. His passion for tennis is evident with his exclusive remarks about the sport. The Goshen College Maple Leafs hosted their first match in Crossroads League tournament history on Tuesday night, where the Maple Leafs defeated Huntington 5-4 in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. Goshen College’s tennis team was back on the courts the past Friday evening to play against Calumet College of Saint Joseph. Pirot named all-league tennis selection
Balazs Pirot, a sophomore tennis player, was named to the men’s tennis All-Crossroads League team this past week. Pirot was one of only five unanimous selections for the 2013 team, as voted by the league’s coaches. Goshen tennis struggles as fall play winds down
The Goshen men’s tennis team lost to Marian in the first round of the Crossroads League Tournament on Tuesday. The Men traveled to Marian as the fifth seed in the Crossroads League Tournament while the Knights sat at number four. Despite playing in good form in recent weeks, the Maple Leafs were unable to avenge their early season loss to Marian. The Goshen College men’s tennis team had a rough outing against Spring Arbor on Tuesday afternoon. Playing on their home courts, the Maple Leafs fell 7-2. The 2011 men’s tennis team nears its end with only two more regular season games before the conference tournament. The team’s record going into today’s match against Indiana Tech is 4-6, and 2-5 in conference. Men’s tennis to compete on Thursday
Goshen College’s men’s tennis team takes on non-conference opponent Cornerstone University today at 4 p.m. The visiting first-year team comes into the match with a 1-3 record as they begin the university’s first tennis season. On Tuesday, visiting conference team, Grace College defeated the Leafs to drop their record to 1-5. Junior Csaba Laszlo, the lone victor for the Leafs, advanced his conference record to .500 for this season. Men’s tennis defeats Anderson, Marion too much for Leafs
This past week saw the Goshen Men’s Tennis team play matches against both Anderson University and conference foe Marion University. While the Leafs were able to defeat Anderson 6-3 this past Saturday, they couldn’t repeat their winning ways, falling Tuesday to Marion by the same score of 6-3. Tennis Season Ends with MCC Tournament
The Maple Leafs’ 2009 men’s and women’s tennis season ended this past week with the Mid-Central Conference (MCC) Tournament at Indiana Wesleyan University. The tournament was played indoors due to weather. The women had a particularly rough tournament schedule, never facing a seed lower than #2, facing some of the top players from around the MCC. Tuesday saw the Maple Leafs Men’s Tennis team host Mid-Central College Conference opponent Grace College just three days after hosting Grace at the Goshen Invitational on Saturday. Tennis coach resigns in order to obtain degree
After eight years committed to the Goshen College women’s tennis team, Sarah Yoder has turned in her resignation.
