This past week saw the Goshen Men’s Tennis team play matches against both Anderson University and conference foe Marion University. While the Leafs were able to defeat Anderson 6-3 this past Saturday, they couldn’t repeat their winning ways, falling Tuesday to Marion by the same score of 6-3.

The Anderson match began with a strong showing from doubles play as for the third time this season, and second time in a row, the Leafs won all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, junior Benjamin Basnet and sophomore Csaba Laszlo were able to come from behind for a 9-8 (6) victory while a similar scenario at No. 2 doubles took place, as the pair of Daniel Buschert and Jordan Kauffman won their match with a score of 9-8(3). No. 3 doubles saw Krishnan Ganesan and Matthew Amstutz win their match in a much easier fashion 8-2. Singles play saw victories from Basnet, Kauffman, and Laszlo, who continued his undefeated season at No. 1 singles.

The second match of the week saw an end to the Leaf’s three game winning streak and dropped them one game below .500 on the season. Laszlo continued his winning ways as he won at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles where he paired up with Chanuk Algama for an 8-5 victory. The other point for Goshen came from No. 3 singles where Basnet defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-4. The loss broke a three-way tie in the conference standings between Goshen, Marion, and Grace College. The Leafs will take on Grace this Friday for their final regular season match that will determine the final seeding for the MCC tournament. This year’s tournament will be hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University and Taylor University, Oct 7-9.
