Men’s tennis continues to Crossroads League semifinals
For the third season in a row, the Goshen College men’s tennis team has advanced to the Crossroads League semifinals. The fourth-seeded Maple Leafs won their quarterfinal matchup this past Tuesday against Huntington University, at the Goshen College Tennis Complex. Goshen defeated the Foresters 5-2, the same scoreline they achieved when the two teams met two weeks ago during the regular season. Men’s tennis shine in conference match against Huntington
Maple Leaf men’s and women’s tennis were back in action this week as they took on conference opponent Huntington University this past Tuesday. The men walked off the court with a 5-2 win over the Foresters, while the women fell 7-0. The men’s singles started off with success for the Maple Leafs. Tennis teams fall to Grace College
Men’s and Women’s tennis both fell in their home opener against Grace College this past Saturday. The men’s team lost 6-1 and the women lost 7-0. Senior Filippo Bigardi began the men’s singles by winning the first set 6-4, but Grace’s Maximilliano Rozas battled back to win the next two 6-3 and 6-1. Senior Juan Migel Ciudad was close to putting the Maple Leafs on the board as he stepped onto the court. He narrowly missed out on the first set as he lost it to a tiebreaker 7-6(5). Men’s tennis advances to the semifinals
The Goshen College men’s tennis team has advanced to the semifinals of the Crossroads League tournament after beating Grace College 6-3 this past Tuesday. Josh Friesen and Luke Rush gave Goshen an early 1-0 lead by winning their doubles match 8-4. But the Lancers responded by leveling the score to 1-1 with an 8-3 win. Martim Cafe and Danny Boussom stepped onto the court and were able to regain the lead with an 8-3 win of their own. Boussom and Cafe lead Goshen Tennis to doubles final
Goshen College men’s tennis team traveled to Indiana Wesleyan for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Midwest Regional Tournament this past week. Students Danny Boussom and Martim Cafe paved the way to the doubles final. The duo defeated opponents from Taylor, Lawrence Tech, IU East, and Northwestern before losing 8-6 loss in the final to IWU. “It was a razor thin margin of defeat,” said Evan Atkinson, tennis director. Goshen College tennis teams fall to the Marian Knights
The Goshen College men and women’s tennis teams traveled to Marian University on Tuesday, Sept. 11 with neither team victoriously returning to campus. Although the Lady Knights swept the Goshen College women’s tennis team 9-0, senior Chloe Woodward kept the match competitive. Her first set against Mary Mullaney scored 2-6 before the second set secured the win for Mullaney at 6-0. The Goshen College men’s tennis team jumped their record over .500 this past Saturday with a narrow 5-4 win over Taylor University while the women fell to the Trojans 9-0 at the Goshen College Tennis Complex. Both Goshen men’s and women’s tennis teams fell shy of Marian University this past Saturday at the Goshen College complex. Tennis falls to Indiana Wesleyan
A premature run for a perfect season in the Crossroads League (CL) ended abruptly for the Goshen College Men’s Tennis Team Tuesday evening at the Goshen College Tennis Complex. A Juan Miguel Ciudad, sophomore, victory at no. 2 singles was the lone GC bright spot amidst an 8-1 defeat to now CL co-leaders, Indiana Wesleyan University. The Goshen College tennis teams wrapped up their regular seasons this past Saturday. Tuesday’s Crossroads League tennis matches at Spring Arbor University’s Jones Tennis Complex belonged to the SAU men and women, as the Goshen College women went down in a 9-0 sweep, while the men gave the Cougars a scare in a close 5-4 match. Evan Atkinson named Goshen College Director of Tennis
Evan Atkinson, an Elkhart County native who served most recently as head tennis coach at Northridge High School, has been named director of tennis at Goshen College, the GC athletic department announced Friday. Atkinson is a 2004 graduate of NorthWood High School in Nappanee and a 2008 alumnus of Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. Men’s tennis advances to finals
The winningest season for a Goshen College men’s tennis team came to an end this past Saturday in Indianapolis as the Leafs fell to Marion in five sets at the Crossroads League championship. To begin the match, Marian won all three doubles matches, meaning that Goshen would have to win five of the six singles matches to take the title. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The men’s tennis team has enjoyed significant success this year. Their record sits at an impressive 6-1, 5-1 in Crossroads League play, and the team sits just a game out of first place in the conference standings. Men’s tennis team will host Indiana Tech next week
The tennis team will open the spring season on Tuesday, April 7th by facing Indiana Tech University at 4pm at the Goshen College Tennis Complex. This will be the only spring game for the Maple Leafs. The tennis team had two games scheduled for the spring but the first one against Rochester College got cancelled due to the injuries of the team from Michigan. Indiana Tech is now playing its main season and they have a 5-1 record.
