The Globe and GCTV success continues
After another successful year at the Intercollegiate Broadcasting Systems (IBS) national award ceremony several weeks ago, Goshen College’s WGCS The Globe and GCTV came back with more awards and nominations after the state-wide Indiana Association of School Broadcasting (IASB) College Broadcasting awards last week. Led by Jason Samuel, WGCS general manager, and David Kendall, associate professor of communication and Correspondent advisor, Goshen found no trouble at all holding their own against the surge of competitions from other colleges with “Communication departments larger than Goshen College’s collective student body.” Despite the 235 entries from 12 colleges in Indiana, WGCS The Globe...

The Globe recognized at annual IBS convention
Already a familiar face at the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS), Goshen College’s own WGCS The Globe was represented with twelve finalist nominations and two first place awards last weekend at the 76th Annual IBS convention in New York City. Out of 6,000 entries from across the nation, one school getting twelve finalist nominations out of the 115 colleges represented at the IBS convention is, at the very least, “atypical.” Because of the size and level of student involvement with WGCS The Globe, the ability of Goshen to compete with larger schools is incredible and something for Goshen to be proud...

Derstine wins Everence national video contest
For the second time in the past three years, a Goshen College student has brought home the award for the Everence national video contest called “Money Talks.” Elizabeth Derstine is a fourth-year film and English writing double major at Goshen College. Recently, Derstine claimed the nationwide award for her video, “Money Talks: The Wallet Diaries.” The video personifies the wallet of a Goshen College student as it confesses it doesn’t have many friends; only acquaintances that come and go—until the wallet comes across an Everence debit card that sticks around. “I was hoping to share the idea that money is...

The Correspondent is led by juniors Karina Flores, who serves as the news director, and Dalton Shetler, operations manager. The student-focused news is produced every other week and provides another way for students to get news about what is happening on campus and in the broader Goshen community. Many hours from plenty of different people, including reporters, anchors, producers and editors, are necessary for one episode of The Correspondent to come together. Tim Litwiller, show editor, estimates that somewhere around “60 collective...
