Five track records broken at Indiana Wesleyan
In a season that has been highlighted by school records falling on a seemingly weekly basis, the Crossroads League Invitational was no different for the Goshen College indoor track team. Five new school records were set over the two days of events at Indiana Wesleyan University. Track continues to break school records
Ryan Smith, a senior, and Lindon McDonald, a first-year, both broke their own school records while Goshen won three events at the Trojan Invitational at Taylor University on Saturday. Smith set the school mark in the 5000 meter with a time of 14:57.27 which was also good enough to take first in the event. McDonald broke his three week-old record in the 60 meter with a time of 7.14. Relay team sets school record
The Goshen College men’s 4×800-meter relay team combined to cut 7.36 seconds off the previous school record set in 2014 as the Maple Leafs’ track teams competed in the Indiana Wesleyan University Midwest Classic this past Saturday. Steven Cranston and Juan Perez, first-years, Luke Graber, a senior and Darius Rawlins, a sophomore, set the third school record in as many meets this season. Two race walkers earn All-American status at Nationals
Every athlete dreams of being called an “All-American,” and for two Goshen College race walkers, that dream came true last Friday, March 4th, at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Johnson City, Tennessee. Abby Dunn, a senior, is no stranger to earning the All-American status. Her third place finish, with a time of 15:19.75, earned Dunn her sixth All-American award. GC hosts 8th annual Maple Leaf Marathon
On February 20th and 21st, runners competed in the eighth annual Maple Leaf Marathon at the Roman Gingerich Recreation and Fitness Center. Each of the three marathons hosted over the course of the weekend totaled 204 laps on the running track, for a total of over 78 miles in 24 hours. The first marathon started at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and the second marathon began that evening at 5:30 p.m., followed by the third marathon at 2:30 a.m. The Maple Leaf Marathon is also USA Track and Field certified. Track competes at Anderson
7.30 seconds was all it took for Christian Stevens, a senior, to match Goshen College’s record time in the 60-meter dash. Joe Pepala set the record mark two years ago, and Stevens tied it twice during Saturday’s meet, both in the semi-finals and then finals at Anderson University. RFC debuts indoor half marathon
Goshen’s first indoor half marathon will be held at the RFC indoor track and will take place over the course of one full week. According to Doug Yoder, organizer of the half marathon and head coach of the cross country and track and field teams, the event is scheduled this way so that students, staff and faculty can run the half marathon whenever it fits their schedules. Campos jumps hurdles from Brazil to Goshen
Vinicius Campos was born in Santo Andre, Brazil 18 years ago. Santo Andre is a big municipality in the region of Sao Paulo, which has a high population of middle class people in Brazil. Race Walkers Bring Home All-American Honors
The Maple Leafs athletes had a successful weekend at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Nationals held in Geneva, Ohio. Seven athletes competed at the event and four of them got All-American honors. In the race walking event, six of the seven competitors on the team qualified for the 3,000-meter race. These athletes were juniors Mitchell Brickson, Kolton Nay, Brad Sandlin, Michelle Moyer, sophomore Abby Dunn and first-year Kayla Gray. Runners crunch a marathon six-pack in six days OLD

On Sunday, February 23 at 6:55am, six racers walked leisurely over to the starting line to start their sixth marathon in six days, all on the Goshen College Rec-Fitness Center’s indoor track. Five Top Season Times for Seven Race Walkers
The Goshen College race walking team continued its strong spring season at home in the event hosted in the Rec Fitness Center. On Saturday afternoon, seven Maple Leafs athletes competed and five of them achieved their best times of the 2014 season. All the athletes on the track and field team made their debut this past weekend at Trine University’s Don and Riley Zimmer Indoor Classic Friday night. This event gave Goshen College some good news as Ryan Smith, a first-year, qualified for the NAIA Indoor National Championship in the 5,000-meter race. There were also 15 other Goshen College athletes that got a position between the first ten athletes in the race. Four Goshen College Race Walkers Book Their Positions for Nationals
The start of the track and field season proved successful for the athletes that competed in Findlay, Ohio this past weekend. Four of the race walkers were able to achieve a set goal of obtaining a qualifying time for this year’s Nationals, to be held in Ohio. Mitchell Brickson and Abby Dunn qualified with the A standard for the 3,000 meter race walk, while newcomers Kolton Nay and Kayla Gray both hit B standards. First-Years on Track Team Aiming for Nationals
Track and Field has been one of the most successful sports in the past years at Goshen College, with many athletes having attended the NAIA National Championship in the last years. The team’s coach, Doug Yoder, doesn’t want to change the tradition this season. “Our goal is always to get as many to nationals as possible,” he says. Indoor track upgrades are underway
Runners and walkers will be able to resume training on the indoor track at the Roman Gingerich Recreation-Fitness Center within the coming days. The RFC staff officially closed the track on Sept. 17 with a pledge to complete the track rehabilitation by Sept 28. The college had been hoping to have the track ready for the start of the school year.
