Hostetler poem published in Washington Square Review
“Portrait of the Artist,” a poem written by English professor Ann Hostetler, has recently been published in the Washington Square Review. The poem is a personal narrative in which Hostetler describes a mother braiding a child’s hair. “It's been said that poems are a place to save things that you don't want to lose,” Hostetler said. “Revisiting this memory was a pleasure for me. Kristi Glick: Cultivating the creative spark
Kristi Glick didn’t give herself an easy summer, instead she pursued her artistic endeavors outside of Goshen College. At the beginning of this month, Glick received first place in the enamel category at the 13th Biennial Alchemy International Juried Exhibition. Her winning jewelry piece is titled “Imagination Moons” and will travel with the Alchemy International traveling exhibition, which will make stops throughout Tennessee. Glick also guest-taught at Arizona Designer Craftsman after the company asked her to give a two-day workshop on metal work in art. Professors emerging as faith mentors
Three out of five students on campus want to know more about professors’ faith journeys; half of them want more faith-related discussion in the classroom. These were the findings of recent research led by campus pastor Bob Yoder on incorporating faith into classroom settings. “Goshen College can do more in this area,” said Yoder, referring to the presence of faith in and outside the classroom. Departing Goshen faculty and staff reflect on time at Goshen, look forward to the future
Following this school year, Goshen College will say farewell to several faculty and staff. Jake Shipe, Resident Director of the Yoder dorms, has worked at Goshen for three years, but has decided to leave to pursue a call in full-time ministry. He is currently looking into an internship at his home church in Mishawaka, Indiana, and various ministry positions elsewhere in the country. Faculty Recital: Christopher Fashun
Christopher Fashun’s hard work is about to pay off. Fashun, who joined the music faculty last fall as an associate professor of music, will be showcasing his talent in a percussion concert Saturday evening. “I am very excited,” said Fashun. “[Rieth] Recital Hall is ridiculously amazing and it is quite a blessing to have such a facility to make music in.” The program will feature 20th century music, with pieces by composers such as James Campbell, Steve Reich and Keiko Abe. Business Professor receives advising certificate
On Oct. 15th, Jonathan L. Geiser, associate professor of business, was awarded the esteemed Certificate in Family Business Advising from the Family Firm Institute (FFI). Geiser was one of roughly 35 recipients from all over the world to receive this educational program certificate at FFI’s annual International Conference in Chicago on Oct. 14th and 15th. Retrospective exhibit highlights a lifetime of art
Before retiring from 30 years of teaching art at the end of this school year, Goshen College Professor of Art, John Blosser, has offered a retrospective exhibit of his artwork done throughout his career. Blosser, who graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in art and art education from Goshen College in 1970, went on to get a masters in painting and drawing from Bowling Green State University in Ohio in 1979. Ann Hostetler, professor of English, read her writings to an audience of students, faculty and friends on Tuesday as a way to share about her sabbatical in Dresden, Germany. Throughout the evening, entitled, "Forgiveness and Other Unexpected Guests: Reflections from a Sabbatical in Dresden, Germany," Hostetler shared her poetry, prose and a short story. Hostetler left for Dresden for a year in August 2009, her second trip to the east-German city.
