Christopher Fashun’s hard work is about to pay off.
Fashun, who joined the music faculty last fall as an associate professor of music, will be showcasing his talent in a percussion concert Saturday evening.“I am very excited,” said Fashun. “[Rieth] Recital Hall is ridiculously amazing and it is quite a blessing to have such a facility to make music in.”
The program will feature 20th century music, with pieces by composers such as James Campbell, Steve Reich and Keiko Abe. He will primarily play marimba and other percussion instruments and will be joined on stage by Dustin George-Miller and pianist Christine Larson Seitz.
“What people will hear is western percussion that is representative of solo repertoire,” Fashun said. “One of the pieces is just clapping.”
While Fashun may be new to Goshen College, he is accomplished in the world of music. In addition to being a percussionist, Fashun is an accomplished violist and conductor, and will soon complete his Doctor of Musical Arts in Orchestral Conducting.
“I think the program I’ve selected has something for everybody,” said Fashun. “If you don’t like one piece, just wait five minutes and you’ll hear something completely different.”
The concert will be held in the Music Center’s Rieth Recital Hall on Saturday Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students. Tickets can be purchased at the door starting at 6:30. GC students are free with ID.
