Got Yoga?
In need of a good stretch? Perhaps you’ve been feeling overstressed and under-relaxed. Luckily for you, Reed Yoder, a junior social work major, has you covered. This semester marks the beginning of a yoga club led by Yoder. The club meets Monday mornings at 10:00 a.m. in the Recreation-Fitness Center. Teaching is relatively new to Yoder, as his first venture came only months ago, during GC’s 2018 Healthy Bodies week. However, Yoder is a seasoned yoga practitioner. Since the age of 15, he has been practicing yoga primarily for the mental and physical health benefits it provides. He believes that...

Hispanic Heritage month celebrates diversity
Hispanic Heritage month for 2018 began on Sept. 15 and will run until Oct. 15. On the Goshen College campus, numerous events are planned and have already happened to celebrate the rich and diverse backgrounds of the Latinx community. The Latino Student Union (LSU) kicked off the month with their first meeting/picture day on Sept. 14, when students took photographs representing their countries and discussed how to get involved with upcoming events. Sept. 23 marked the day of the LSU World Cup Soccer Tournament, an event that was open to the campus. Last Wednesday, Sept. 26, the LSU led a...

Mexico highlighted in LSU cultural event
Last Friday evening, students, as well as some faculty, gathered on the lawn outside of Umble to celebrate Mexico’s culture and history. One of Latino Student Union’s (LSU) leaders, Lourdes Resendiz, was the head planner of the event. She was in charge of planning and executing the LSU Cultural Spotlight, with a focus on the country of Mexico. Students who identified with the Mexican culture were the main people who were involved and helped with the event. They put lots of hard work by taking time to plan the event and contributing towards it. All contributions counted, whether it was...

A place for gamers
This year, Goshen College added a new and relatively unique club to its roster of growing groups on campus: The League of Legends Video Game Club. At the beginning of the year, James Garcia and ByeongChan Lim, seniors, and Bryan Nguyen, junior decided there was enough interest on campus to put together their own competitive team, and the club was born. “We had always wanted to [create a club] since our sophomore year, but we didn’t think there was enough interest,” said Garcia. “Last semester we realized there was enough interest, so we asked Chad to be our club leader...

Presidential search continues
On Feb. 20, members of the Presidential Search Committee met with an open group of students to provide updates on the search process, as well as receive feedback as to what students are requesting of their next president. Through the Social Reform Club, students initiated contact with the committee by writing a letter drafted in unity with many other clubs on campus, including Goshen Student Women’s Association, Black Student Union, Prevention Intervention Network, Student Senate as well as several others. In the letter, the student authors outlined three categories that they wished for the committee to keep in mind during...

Breaking into your passion
Ever since Nimoy Vaidya’s first week as a student at Goshen College, he has searched for others who share his biggest passion in life: b-boying. Vaidya, now a sophomore, grew up in Kathmandu, Nepal, where he was first exposed to b-boying or break-boying, more widely known as breakdancing, in high school. Boys in his neighborhood practiced this style of dance after school. They had anger and frustration towards the government, explained Vaidya, and they wanted to find some release that was more satisfying and productive than harsh words or violence. Vaidya, too, learned to channel his frustrations through popping, locking,...

Rugby club coming to GC
Rugby fans rejoice; the sport is on its way to Goshen College’s campus in the form of a club. If you’ve been around for the past several years, you’ve probably noticed a group of muddy students playing rugby in the KMY lawn on Saturday mornings, despite the actions of mother nature. In the past, this has been a small group of students, however the group is now becoming more public. This year, Lydia Kelsey and Austin Reith have decided to make the rugby group an official club, with membership open to anyone. Andrew Moeggenborg is the faculty adviser for this...

Multiple upcoming EcoPAX club events
With spring officially here, EcoPAX is ready to capitalize on the warm weather with an array of events lined up for the final stretch of the semester. All of the events in one form or another represent the goals of Goshen College’s ecologically-minded leaders by broadening community through ecological awareness, action, education and living by forming connections on campus and throughout the entire Goshen community. Ben Wiebe, a sophomore and one of EcoPAX’s planning committee members, expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming events when discussing some of the specifics. “It’s difficult to have a lot of interactive EcoPAX events throughout...

This week, the EcoPAX club has put together numerous events to celebrate Goshen’s first ever Food Week, including presentations, volunteer opportunities, and conversations about food. Donation boxes are located in almost every building on campus and all donations will be given to both the Salvation Army and the Elkhart County Women’s Shelter. “Our goal is to help as many...
