Goshen falls to #1 IWU despite Hawk’s career high
Before the game on Saturday afternoon between the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats and the Goshen Maple Leafs, Sam Hawk’s college career high was 13 points. That mark lasted less than 14 minutes. The junior and Indianapolis native scored 13 of her team’s first 17 points, tallying 24 points on 7-of-11 shooting before the halftime intermission. Women’s basketball to play home opener on Saturday
With a fresh set of players and a new head coach, the women’s basketball team prepares to kick off its season on Saturday Oct. 29 with a home opener against Lourdes University. Stephanie Miller will take over as the head coach in place of Steve Wiktorowski, who resigned after nine seasons. Miller graduated from Michigan State University where she studied secondary education with a focus in biology and English. Basketball season comes to an end
The men’s and women’s basketball seasons came to an end after last weekend’s games. The men played at Marian University last Saturday but lost the game 62-78. The women played Marian University at home on senior day and also fell short with a 68-88 loss. Both teams were only one game short of making it to the MCC tournament. The season was full of individual winners, though: four Maple Leaf seniors and one sophomore are ending their seasons with honors. On the men’s team three players were recognized by the MCC coaches. Women’s basketball loses to Huntington in conference play
Last Saturday the women’s basketball team traveled to Huntington, Ind. to play a conference game against the Huntington University Foresters. The Lady Leafs were not able to overtake the Foresters and lost the game 80-56. Goshen had an early lead, but the Foresters went to work and took over the lead with 14:40 left in the first period. From there, Huntington commanded the game and continued to end the first period with a score of 33-25. Lady Maple Leafs Drop Two in Conference Play
The Goshen College women’s basketball team lost two conference games this past week against Bethel and Grace College, bringing their total record this season to 6-20 (2-10 in conference play). Goshen hosted the Bethel College Pilots on Thursday, February 3. Bethel came away with a 77-52 victory, helped by ten 3-pointers and 44 percent shooting from the floor. Eighth-Ranked Bobcats too much for Lady Leafs
The Lady Leafs battled the Indian Wesleyan Bobcats all during their game on Wednesday night, Jan. 26, but came up short by a 66-53 count. The Lady Maple Leafs’ basketball team showed a strong defensive front as time expired to beat conference rival Taylor University at home last Saturday. The Goshen women’s basketball team opened their conference play against Spring Arbor University last Tuesday. Unfortunately the Leafs weren’t able to keep pace with a hot shooting Cougar squad that shot 50.8% from the field and fell by a final score of 79-48. The women’s basketball team split it’s away games this week, traveling to Palo Heights, Ill. to play Trinity Christian College on Saturday and traveling to Richmond, Ind. to play Earlham College on Tuesday. The women lost to Trinity Christian 80-75 and soundly defeated Earlham with a 64-46 score. Women’s basketball fall to Concordia in home opener
The Goshen College women’s basketball team played their season opener at home last night, facing off against non-conference opponent Concordia University and ending the game with a 75-59 loss. Goshen took the quart with fewer injuries and a deeper bench then they did last year. The Goshen College women’s basketball team hosted the Huntington University Foresters Wednesday night. When these two teams last faced off against each other, Huntington grabbed the victory, 78-63. Last night, the 8-13 Goshen College’s women’s basketball team hosted the 2-16 Spring Arbor University Cougars. Both teams came into the game highly motivated, looking for their first conference win so far. In the end, it was the Cougars who broke their losing streak in a 56-48 victory. Goshen College’s women’s basketball team faced Indiana Wesleyan University on November 24. The Maple Leafs knew they were facing an uphill battle against the #14 ranked IWU, and struggled in the first half on both sides of the court. Women’s basketball team looked to bounce back from the weekend losses to #24 NAIA ranked Cardinal Stritch and a very good Ohio Dominican side these past Friday and Saturday nights. Creativity in dunks as well as costumes
Men’s and Women’s basketball team showcase their talent at Purple and White Night. The second annual purple and white night showcased both Men’s and Women’s team. The night offered free pizza, raffle tickets for prizes like bowling, Buffalo Wild Wings, Shirts and many more.
