The men’s and women’s basketball seasons came to an end after last weekend’s games. The men played at Marian University last Saturday but lost the game 62-78. The women played Marian University at home on senior day and also fell short with a 68-88 loss. Both teams were only one game short of making it to the MCC tournament.
The season was full of individual winners, though: four Maple Leaf seniors and one sophomore are ending their seasons with honors.On the men’s team three players were recognized by the MCC coaches. Jeremy Pope was named to the All-MCC Honorable Mention squad. Fellow senior Carl Steen earned a spot on the five-man All MCC Defensive Team. Sophomore Matthew Martin was picked to be in the five-member All-MCC Newcomer Team.
On the women’s side two seniors are ending their careers with respectable accomplishments. Senior Erica Yost not only put up over 1,000 points in her career at Huntington University and Goshen College, she was also chosen to be a part of the All-MCC Second Team. Classmate Cassie Grieves has become the first basketball player of any gender in Goshen College history with over 1,000 career rebounds. Earlier this season she broke the Goshen College women’s basketball career rebounding record, and now she has surpassed both the men’s and women’s record holders.
