The Goshen men’s basketball team nearly managed to pull off an upset over # 19 Indiana Wesleyan University Tuesday night. The Leaf’s regained possession in the waning seconds of the game, with a chance to tie up the game with a field goal, or win with a three. Unfortunately, the opportunity never even presented itself. The Goshen College men’s basketball team traveled to Grand Rapids, Mich., on Tuesday night to face off against #11 NAIA DII Davenport University. Davenport presented a significant roadblock in the Maple Leafs quest to achieve a win after losing two straight games in the Maple City Hoop Fest this past weekend. The men’s basketball team survived a late surge Tuesday night to pull away with a 77-70 victory over visiting Aquinas College in their first game of the season. After leading comfortably for most of the game, Goshen found itself up by only two with less than 30 seconds left to play. McCollum named first team All-American
In his fourth year donning the Goshen College uniform, Errick McCollum II, a senior guard, put together an incredible season. After a total of 31 games in his senior season, he averaged 25.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3 assists per contest. All of this accumulated into his being named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) First Team All American, as well as the Mid-Central College Conference (MCC) player of the year. Win against Marian brings Leafs’ streak to three
On Tuesday evening, the Goshen College men’s basketball team earned a much-needed home win after losing their previous three. The win adds to the Leafs two-game winning streak that had resulted from two road wins. The win did not come easy as the visiting Marian Knights fought hard all game long, keeping it close the entire forty minutes of play. The Goshen College Men’s Basketball team headed out on the road this past Tuesday, Feb. 9, to play Mid-Central Conference (MCC) opponent Huntington University. Coming off of a tough home loss to 8th nationally-ranked University of Saint Francis, the Maple Leafs were able to pull out a critical 89-82 victory over the Huntington Foresters. Maple Leafs fight hard but fall short The men’s basketball team faced one of the top ranked teams in the country, 9th ranked Bethel Pilots, this past Saturday in front of packed home crowd. The Goshen College men’s basketball team lost their first home game of the season last Saturday against the #9-ranked Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats. Indiana Wesleyan came into the game on a 13-game winning streak, which they extended to 14 after the 71-66 victory. The last team to beat the Wildcats was Goshen, who inflicted their only conference loss this season. McCollum Sets All-time Scoring Record for Men’s Basketball
Senior shooting guard, Errick McCollum II, solidified his name in Goshen College basketball lore with his record-breaking free throw shot on Tuesday, December 15, at the Roman Gingrich Rec-Fitness center. McCollum came into the game 23 points shy of Goshen’s all-time scoring record, which was held by Eric Walsh (’06). Many onlookers saw Errick McCollum’s momentum-shifting dunk at the Goshen College men’s basketball game against Grace College on Jan. 5, but many more saw it after the game. The 6-2 Goshen Maple Leafs traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana to play the 1-5 Indiana Tech Warriors this past weekend. The Warriors were able to stop their four game winning streak as they beat the Leafs 72-71 and ended their four game winning streak. The men’s basketball team traveled to Canton, Ohio this weekend to play #6 NAIA-ranked Walsh College and Malone University. The men’s basketball team opened their season on Tuesday night at Indiana University in South Bend. The Maple Leafs started the scoring with an impressive alley-oop from Kyle Davis, a first year, to Daniel Butler, a junior. Surprise Recruit Joins Basketball Days Before Semester’s Start
When six-foot six-inch basketball player Daniel Butler graduated from Milwaukee Tech Community College in 2006, he never expected to play basketball as part of a team again. As it turns out, Butler’s career on the court did not end there. Though he was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Butler was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and he calls it home. Men’s and Women’s basketball team showcase their talent at Purple and White Night. The second annual purple and white night showcased both Men’s and Women’s team. The night offered free pizza, raffle tickets for prizes like bowling, Buffalo Wild Wings, Shirts and many more.
