Basketball teams fall amid senior night recognitions
Cold shooting stymied the Maple Leaf men’s and women’s basketball teams on Saturday afternoon against the visiting St. Francis Cougars. In the women’s game, seniors Haley Archibeque, Caitlyn O’Neal and Sydney Stein all started for the Leafs in their second-to-last home game. St. Francis opened the game with a seven-point run that came to an abrupt halt after a TaNiece Chapman layup with five minutes left in the first quarter. Six score double digits in women’s basketball victory
A balanced scoring attack from Goshen gave the Maple Leafs their first conference victory over rival team Bethel College last Wednesday evening. The Leafs spread the ball around early as six of the seven players recorded baskets in the first quarter. Women’s basketball loses thriller at home
A three-point basket with 21 seconds left on the clock was just enough for the Cougars of Spring Arbor as they edged out the Maple Leafs 51-50 last Saturday afternoon. Goshen jumped out to an early first quarter lead behind five three pointers from four different starters. Maple Leafs stymied in road contest
Turnovers plagued the women’s basketball team as they fell to the Cougars of Saint Francis on Saturday afternoon by a score of 50-74. First-year Graysen Cockerham started her career-high afternoon by draining a three just 25 seconds into the game off an assist from senior guard, Haley Archibeque. Home opener win for women’s basketball
The Goshen College women’s basketball team beat Lourdes University 67-62 in their home opener this past Saturday. In the first quarter, the Maple Leafs jumped out to a 12-3 lead after sophomore Mariah Roe hit two three-point baskets. Slow Start Causes Season Opening Loss
On Saturday, the Goshen College women’s basketball team kicked off their season falling 67-51 on the road to Holy Cross College. The Maple Leaf team consists of a young core group of players, but is still senior-led by Sydney Stein, Haley Archibeque and Caitlyn O’Neal. Two sisters get one last shot at Leaf’s basketball
Four minutes into the first game of the 2017 season, Caitlyn O’Neal, a senior, attacked the basket and was hit by a defender, tearing her anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL. Women’s Basketball plays Marian tough in final game
Carley O’Neal, a senior, concluded her basketball playing days and the 2017-2018 Goshen College women’s basketball team’s season in fashion with a career-high 28 points despite dropping to nationally-ranked Marian University 77-73 Saturday at Gunden Gymnasium. The Goshen College women’s basketball program fell twice to ranked opponents this past weekend in the Siena Heights University Thanksgiving Classic, first to SHU in a 72-52 defeat on Friday, and then 65-43 in Saturday’s consolation round against Indiana University Northwest. Former player, 2017 alum hired as women’s basketball assistant coach
Kelsey Fraley, a former Goshen College women’s basketball player, has now joined the coaching staff. Fraley played for four years as a Maple Leaf and graduated in 2017. Throughout her career, Fraley had multiple coaching opportunities in Goshen, including head coach of the freshman boys’ basketball team at Goshen High School and head coach for the Bethany Christian Middle School girls’ team.
