Acayo stars, Leafs shine at Little State Championship
Peni Acayo, a junior, was recognized as Outstanding Field Athlete on Saturday at the Little State Championship on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU), where the Goshen College women’s track and field team placed 10th out of 19 teams and the men’s track and field team placed 12th out of 19 teams. Records set and qualifications met at Maple Leaf Invitational
Goshen College men’s and women’s track hosted their first home meet of the outdoor season last Sat., March 27 at the Eigsti Track and Field Complex. Combined, the men and women won nine individual events. As a team, the Maple Leaf men finished in third place overall with 159 points, while the women did one better and placed second with 106.5 points. Maple Leafs flex some muscle in first outdoor meet
Members of the Goshen College men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the Dick Small Invitational at Defiance College this past Saturday. Competing as only partial teams, both the men and women still managed to pick up fourth place finishes. The outdoor season started with several strong performances, including two event winners and one national qualifier. On the men’s side, Matthew Webster, a sophomore, won the discus with a throw of 147’ 3”. Track starts off with a BANG!
The Goshen College Men’s and Women’s track teams had a strong start to their 2010 season, with two individuals already qualifying for indoor nationals. Tina Peters, a senior, continues to add to her accomplishments, qualifying for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 3000 m race walk with a time of 15:16.49. Three school records tracked at Little State
The men’s and women’s track teams produced three individual champions, three new school records and four national qualifying performances at the Little State Championships in Marion, Ind. on Saturday. Leafs continue steady race toward conference meet
Both the women’s and men’s track teams had strong showings at the Anderson Invite on Saturday, finishing second and third respectively. For the women’s team, Deanna Kronk, a senior, won both the shot put (42′ 4 1/2″) and the discus (130′ 5″). Kronk finished second in the hammer throw with a toss of 121′ 9″. Wind-blown Leafs set records: Flexing strength and speed on home track
Despite temperatures hovering in the 20s with gusts of wind sweeping across the Eigsti Track and Field Complex, Goshen College won 10 individual track and field events in the annual Maple Leaf Invite. The Leafs wasted no time, opening the meet with a three-person sweep in the 3000-meter race walk. Leafs finish strong in outdoor opener
A small contingent of Goshen College track athletes opened the outdoor track and field season on Saturday at the Dick Small Invite in Defiance, Ohio. Tina Peters, a junior, was the only female competitor on the track for the Maple Leafs. Peters ran a personal best in the 5,000 meters to place sixth with a time of 20:34. A barefoot journey to Goshen
For Samuel Chege, running has been more than a sport. It has been a way of life. Growing up on his family’s farm in the countryside of Kenya, Chege’s feet were his means of transportation as he hunted, farmed, commuted to town and ran to school. “Running was not something to gain interest in since I had to run to get to where I needed to go,” said Chege, a senior.
