Fall kickoff ‘out of this world’
Hundreds of eager Goshen College students packed themselves into Sauder Concert Hall Friday evening for the Fall 2010 Kick-off. This year’s theme was “Goshen Goes to the Moon,” which was quickly apparent in Campus Activities Council’s opening “Space Jam” routine. Traditionally, CAC has instigated a theme for each Kickoff and hosted the show in addition to their year-round duties planning campus events and hosting hour-afters. Friday evening's talent show displayed a variety of student talents including a whirlwind of 80's dance hits, a vampire love story, vuvuzelas and an epic cello solo. The winning act of the evening was a...

Author of ‘The Soloist’ coming to Goshen
Steven Lopez, author of "The Soloist" and reporter for The Los Angeles Times, will be speaking in at Sauder Hall on Friday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. as a part of Oaklawn's 11th annual Spring Spectacular. Lopez has been a reporter at The L.A. Times since 2001, but most learned his name when he wrote "The Soloist," a recent bestseller based on his weekly column and interactions with Nathaniel Anthony Ayers, a homeless Juilliard musician struggling with schizophrenia. The book was then made into a major motion picture starring Jamie Foxx as Ayers and Robert Downey, Jr. as Lopez. "I'd...

Kick-off has come and gone once again, but it will not soon be forgotten. The student body showed raucous enthusiasm during every part of the evening, from the winning acts to the music that played during stage changes. Here are a few of the many memorable acts from Fall Kick-off 2009. The evening began with a brief tribute to Happy Camper and the Bees, a group of recent graduates whose songs were Kick-off hits last year. This led into their zany and catchy music video “Baby Come Back to Me," produced by Jacob Landis-Eigsti, a sophomore. There were several other...
