Goshen vies for Highway 20 Cup
Prior to the 2019-20 athletic season, Goshen College and Bethel University implemented the U.S. Highway 20 Cup. It’s a full-sport competition between the programs, who compete for 16 total points (one for each sport). In each of the first four years, Bethel easily bested Goshen. This year, the score is 7.75-4.75 in Bethel’s favor, which means that Goshen has a shot to win. Sure, it’s a long shot. But 4.75 is the most points Goshen has ever recorded in the competition, and a clean sweep of the remaining schedule (including two men’s volleyball games, two softball games and men’s and...

Coach prepared players for the day they ‘can’t eat a baseball’
Walking by the ballfield on an afternoon, it wasn’t unlikely that you’d hear Coach Doug Wellenreiter before you saw him. “Get behind the ball,” he’d yell to outfielders, in an effort to bolster their defense. Wellenreiter served as the assistant coach for GC’s baseball team for six years and passed away on Tuesday. Chasing the Venezuelan dream: baseball
Daniel Camargo’s Venezuelan-style passion for baseball brought him to Goshen College from a country fanatic about the sport. Camargo, an exercise science major, is one of 10 first-years on the Goshen College baseball team this season. You’re from Venezuela. Tell me about the baseball scene there. Baseball is like a religion there, basically. People show up to baseball and not to church. My family used to get together and watch baseball all the time. Baseball is our lifestyle. In my city, either you play or you used to play. If you want to be somebody, then you should be...
