Baseball sweeps 20th-ranked Taylor University
In an extended three-game series on Tuesday, the Goshen baseball team took down the Trojans from Taylor University in all three games for the first time since 1964. Game one of the three game season series was won by the Maple Leafs on March 28 when the Leafs traveled to Upland, IN, where they defeated the Trojans 3-2. On Tuesday afternoon, they hosted the Trojans for a doubleheader. In game one, Goshen struck first in the second inning. Baseball shutout in home opener
Sarge Yoder Field was on full display for the first time this season as the Maple Leaf baseball team took on the Pilots of Bethel College on Monday afternoon. A pitchers’ duel favored the Pilots as they captured their third conference win of the season by a score of 3-0. Sophomore Camm Nickell took the mound for the Maple Leafs for his fifth start of the year. Stellar pitching elevates Leafs in Georgia
The Goshen baseball team received quality outings from four pitchers in their three games at Toccoa Falls College last Saturday. The triple header concluded a week-long trek across North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia where the team finished with a 5-5 record. Sophomore southpaw Baylee Young took the mound in the Leafs first matchup with the Screaming Eagles of Toccoa Falls. Mother Nature cooperated momentarily for the Maple Leaf baseball team this past weekend as they traveled to Fairborn, Ohio to take on the Cardinals from Concordia University in a back-to-back doubleheader. Athletic Nicaragua May Term to return in 2018
Last May, members of the Goshen College baseball team traveled to Carazo, Nicaragua for three weeks of study and sports. After much praise from the trial group of athletes, the May Term course will be returning in 2018, this time for the softball and women’s basketball teams. The trip in 2016 was spearheaded by Doug Schirch, professor of chemistry and currently a SST leader in Peru, who is again behind the planning of the next trip. The Goshen College baseball team headed for warmer temperatures over spring break as the Leafs traveled to Georgia and Kentucky, winning the last six games of the trip after dropping the first three.
