As Homecoming Weekend approaches, I’ve taken it upon myself to workshop a potential new schedule for next year’s events. It’s never a bad idea to freshen things up, right? Here is a brief excerpt from “Naomi’s New and Improved Homecoming Schedule of Festivities.”

5 a.m.: Squirrel watching

Have you heard of birdwatching? This is like that, but for squirrels! Note that this event is MANDATORY. Let’s make the most of the weekend by taking advantage of the morning’s wee hours.

6 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Contemplative sitting on KMY

Take some time to relax on the well-groomed lawn outside of Goshen College’s residence halls. This is a silent activity. Participation is MANDATORY. Any disruptions will be swiftly reprimanded.

10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.: Corn on the cob breakfast

Get in touch with your Midwestern roots! Limited cobs, butter and seasonings are available.

10:15 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Student Hunt

During this substantial chunk of time, we encourage all guests to engage with GC students. Pull them from their daily commutes and offer opportunities for pleasant and thorough conversation.

2 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Student vs. Alumni corn-on-the-cob-eating contest

Only available if there are still cobs, butter, and seasonings left post-breakfast.

4 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.: Potluck

MANDATORY attendance. We do not recommend that you bring cobs.

4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Wind down

Take some time to reflect on your day. How many cobs did you eat? Did you enjoy them?

5 p.m.: Bedtime

MANDATORY.

Thanks for checking out my newest passion project. If you like what you see, let’s make this a reality in 2024!
