If you look closely, you’ll see that the buds on the magnolia tree between the Administration Building and the Science Hall are turning a pale green. The snow has melted and the campus squirrels are rowdy once more. A light jacket is preferable to a heavy winter coat. You can now walk outside without fear of stepping into a dark slushy pile of melting snow.
Spring is around the corner here at Goshen College, but these outdoor cues are not the only signs of spring. You may have noticed mismatched hues of light on your evening stroll across GC or a new pile of unearthed soil on the corner of almost every campus building. Maintenance workers are busy putting up new lampposts and building signs all over campus. The Roman Gingerich Recreation Fitness Center is also getting some attention. Window decals have been applied to the east entrance. Two weeks ago, the center’s name was reapplied in white 3D letters by two men on a mobile elevated work platform.
Alongside this campus refresh come changes to the campus directory maps near the RFC and Westlawn.
The Herald and Wilma Good Library redesigned their lobby display for the month of March, spotlighting an assortment of books with green covers. Paper raindrops, clouds and bright-colored flowers hang from the lobby ceiling and cling to the windows at the front entrance.
Dash’s Clothing Cache is stocking the closet with warm-weather staples like mini dresses, T-shirts and sandals.
Green grass is sprouting throughout the Kratz-Miller-Yoder Lawn. The disc golf team is now able to practice outside due to warmer weather.
In the midst of all of this, seniors are preparing their theses and capstone projects, students are scrambling to get their remaining chapel and convocation credits, and seven-week courses in the business department have just begun. Campus is warming up, slowly but surely.
