On the Goshen College campus, there are quite a few podcasts: the Goshen College podcast, which is centered around GC’s convos and chapels, the “Just Plain Wrong” podcast, which focuses on religious fictional works, and a few more to boot.

However, another podcast on campus launched not too long ago. The Maple Mile podcast, which has been in talks for awhile, has finally broken into the scene.

The Maple Mile is a podcast managed by Max Estep, a first-year engineering physics major. Its co-hosts are Jesse Bontrager, a first-year exercise science major, and Isaiah Beiter, a junior social work major.

It is centered around running, but features an improvised setting where guests can speak about their past and how they got to where they are now.

Bontrager and Beiter, both cross-country runners, had been planning to start the podcast since pre-season this summer and finally made their first episode around three weeks ago after borrowing some equipment from ITS on campus. Their goal is to get people interested and talking about running and they are striving to expand their platform to broader topics.

The podcast has had two guest speakers appear so far including Charlie Aldrich, a senior communication major, and Arleth Martinez, a senior sociology major. Both of them are also on the cross-country team at GC.

The plan for this podcast is to attract people who don’t normally run. Bontrager said, “We just want to have a good time and just kind of spread the word for running. I feel like people usually associate running with, at least for other sports, you have to run if you do something bad on the court or out on the field.”

Beiter added, “I think, like, really bringing in listeners who aren’t that into running, and make them really interested in it, I think that’s cool when you get people who aren’t runners and get them into the sport.”

There have been a few hiccups since the podcast started, and because it is still in the early stages, the process isn’t completely polished.

However, having Estep as a part of the equation helps clean up any problems that arise. He keeps an eye on the sound and visuals during the recording process and sends and answers emails.
