In an attempt to encourage holistic health among student-athletes, Chad Coleman, associate athletic director, announced Gia Karem as a new counselor for the athletic department. Earlier this summer, Patty Hartshorn, director of health and wellness and Title IX coordinator, contacted Coleman, suggesting additional counseling support for athletes in the afternoons. He believes it to be “a good endeavor for athletics … giving the emphasis on mental and physical health is what we strive for here.” GC’s Student Life alongside Health and Wellness have been in touch with social work students in the past, who have wanted to complete their graduate...

Phillips steps down from men’s volleyball
Last week, Jeff Phillips, director of volleyball, announced to the men’s team that he would be stepping down as their head coach. Phillips will stay on as head women’s volleyball coach. Phillips said that when he first interviewed for the head women’s volleyball coach position, “it was pitched to me to do both,” he was adamant that he did not want to because it would be “very difficult to give 100% to both programs.” He decided to become an assistant coach for the men and take the head coach position for the women’s team. However, Goshen struggled with recruitment for...

The first gym is built at GC for coed athletic activities through a combined force of student laborers and local Goshenites. Its location stood on the...

Taking games ‘one at a time’
Six games remain in what has been one of the toughest seasons in Goshen College Men’s Volleyball history. The team is stepping into the final games with a conference record of 1-9. The team has endured an extremely tough season having only recorded four wins so far. Sophomore right side hitter, Sawyer Frystak, commented on the team’s struggles: “We had...

Goshen tennis embraces spring shift
The Goshen College tennis teams are transitioning from a fall season to a spring season, aligning with the rest of the country. The move brings new opportunities, challenges, and a shift in team dynamics for both the men’s and women’s programs. The most immediate benefit of moving to a spring season is the extended preseason, which gives players more time to bond and prepare. Matija Margetic, a junior on the men’s team, said the longer preseason will allow for better interaction within the team. “We get to team build more in the fall and figure out the best doubles combinations...

On Feb. 14 and 15, both women’s and men’s indoor track teams participated in the Crossroads League Championship. The women’s team finished in 10th place, while the men’s team tied for eighth place. Head Coach Rustin Nyce mentioned the numerous successes that the team found: Jaylah Leggett, a sophomore, and Sam Sofolahan, a first year, were two such standouts. “We had a lot of people run their personal best, or throw or jump their season or personal bests. So those were highlights, and then watching the team be supportive of each other while the others were competing was also...
