73% of eligible students have already voted
In a campus wide poll, The Record received anonymous student reported statistics on intention to vote, intended candidate and voting method. 234 students responded, which represents 34% of the undergraduate body. 76.3% of respondents, 145 students, declared their intention to vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. 20.5% of respondents, 39 students, stated that they will be putting Donald Trump and JD Vance on their ballot. Apache Stronghold leader visits campus
Last Wednesday, Dr. Wendsler Nosie Sr., former chairman of the San Carlos Apache Tribe and founder of the Apache Stronghold, took the stage at Goshen College’s convocation. His powerful message kicked off a series of speeches throughout the week, made possible by One Circle and the Atlee and Winifred Beechy Peace, Justice and Reconciliation Lectureship Series endowment. Campus clubs collaborate
Throughout campus, clubs provide students with entertainment and connections outside of their usual circles. This semester, clubs have joined forces, creating partnerships that fuse the values of student groups on campus. Effects of construction on campus
The new and updated version of the Westlawn dining hall opened to students earlier this week, which was a result of more than two years of work. The first steps to renovation began way back on March 26, 2022, when volunteers started clearing the upper floors of West Lawn. It wasn’t until Aug. 7, 2023 that contractors first prepared the land for construction. Revitalizing the Trackside Garden
One of Goshen College’s most unknown features is a small garden located along the train tracks at 1623 South 9th Street. The space was created in 2013 and, today, roughly nine people tend to the garden patch. It is cultivated by anyone who is interested and provides the opportunity for students and faculty to grow produce and get their hands dirty. Dining returns to Westlawn
On Sunday evening, Westlawn opened for dining, 415 days after it was shut down as part of broader renovations in the building. “Do you remember when we moved everything out of here?” President Rebecca Stoltzfus asked me, referencing a Saturday morning last September when Stoltzfus, along with other members of the faculty and staff, helped transition out of the dining hall into a temporary space in the Union building. The Student Senate is the connection between the student body and administration here at Goshen College. Spencer Castillo, co-adviser and admissions counselor, said that the “Student Senate is the voice of the Goshen College student body.” He works with Gilberto Pérez Jr., co-advisor , vice president of student life and dean of students, to guide the senate in advocating for diverse student groups, helping secure funding for clubs and organizations and facilitating discussion that shapes campus policies. Classroom space stretched for large first-year class
This fall, Goshen College has seen a spike in the number of first-year students with the enrollment of 201 first-year students compared to last year’s 156. After five consecutive years of classes numbering less than 200, the college must now figure out how to accommodate these extra students in the classroom. GC goes public with campaign

Westlawn project nears completion
After a year of construction, Westlawn will partially reopen in the final weeks of October, beginning with the dining hall. Though the menu for the first meal has not yet been announced, the director of dining services promised an expanded cuisine. Brian Mast, director of facilities at Goshen College, said that construction is on track to finish on Oct. 15. AD elevator: Behind schedule and over budget
Repairs on the elevator for the Administrative Building, which has been out of service since last December, will take longer and cost more than anticipated. Goshen College officials had expected the elevator to be back in service in August at the start of the fall semester; the return to service may be pushed back to December. Clocktower rings once more
After years of waiting, the clocktower’s chimes returned to campus earlier this month, ringing out every 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Since most current students have never known the chimes to ring, it took a concentrated effort from Leon Stutzman, ’59, to put the wheels in motion enough to bring them back. “I have one of those recumbent trikes,” Stutzman said. “I’ve always enjoyed riding through the campus, but there were no chimes and it just didn’t seem right.
