This drawing is a recreation of Big Fish Eat Little Fish by Pieter Bruegel the Elder that I finished recently. Bruegel is a Renaissance artist whose work I had studied a couple of times when I was in elementary and high school as part of the artist study that my curriculum did. This engraving was originally falsely attributed to Hieronymus Bosch by the publisher because of its absurdity. I really enjoy the surreal, quite silly, style of Bruegel’s more fantastical engravings. The flying fish is my personal favorite, but there are many whimsical creatures to be found!
