New York Times White House correspondent to speak at GC
Katie Rogers, a New York Times White House correspondent, will be speaking at Goshen College on March 6. She will be presenting about her experience in journalism and her new book, “American Woman: The Transformation of the Modern First Lady, From Hillary Clinton to Jill Biden.” She previously spoke at GC in 2019 for her Yoder Public Affairs lecture, “Covering the White House in an Age of Misinformation, Mistruths and Mistrust.” Katie grew up in Elkhart wanting to be a writer. Sherer Trio takes stage
This Sunday afternoon, Reith Recital Hall was filled with the sounds of passionate violin playing, rich cello tones and dramatic piano chords — the sounds of the Sherer Trio. The Sherer Trio was created in memory of Lon Sherer, the founder of the Goshen College Orchestra, and Kathryn Sherer, a piano professor at GC. It is composed of Solomia Soroka on violin, Matthew Hill on piano and Dato Machavariani on cello. The concert began with Beethoven’s Piano Trio in C minor, Op. 1, No. 3. The Silver Duo performs in Rieth Recital Hall
Last Sunday, Rieth Recital Hall welcomed guest artists Noreen and Phillip Silver, better known as The Silver Duo, to share their talents with the Goshen community. The husband-and-wife, piano-and-cello duo from the music faculty of the University of Maine performed works by J.S. Bach, Camille Saint-Saёns, Paul Ben-Haim and a trio by Vasyl Barvinsky which featured Goshen College’s own Solomia Soroka on violin. Faculty recital highlights African-American voices
Goshen College’s 2023 King Celebration honored the life Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 20 with a faculty recital by H. Roz Woll, associate professor of music, and colleague Roy Jennings, pianist, arranger and founder of Arch Angel Productions. The recital included music from all African-American composers and spoken word from Jakyra Green, a junior English and secondary education major and a song performed by Nakiyah Kilpatrick, a senior sign language interpreting major. Rieth Chamber Series to Present its Sixth Season
Rieth Recital Hall is about to host its sixth season of the Rieth Chamber Series, which features classical music performed by soloists and ensembles from all over the world. The series will begin on this Friday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. with The Donald Sinta Quartet. The Quartet is an all-male group of saxophonists named after their mentor, University of Michigan Saxophone Professor Donald Sinta.
