Pool space likely to become a multi-use facility
The large space where people used to swim has remained vacant, though it is visible to all who use the Recreation-Fitness Center. In a recent interview, Bill Born, vice president for student life, revealed what some of the new plans for the space might look like. “Right now, we're trying to work out the logistics,” Born said. He said a recent survey that the administration used to collect information from students, staff and community members helped provide feedback on how the space might be used to “meet people's expectations and needs” as best as they can. Pool filled in, what will fill its place?
Today, workers expect to pour the concrete floor where the pool once stood. When the floor is set, details including doors must be in place before people can access to the area, Bill Born, vice president of student life, said. Student Senate is currently taking suggestions for the pool space. Ideas can be submitted to billjb@goshen.edu. A pool forum for students will be help on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. in the RFC classroom.

Construction projects occupy campus
Goshen College students stepping onto campus this fall will notice a plethora of construction welcoming them to campus. The college is currently in the midst of three major construction projects: a new train underpass, a renovated Union building and a new geothermal heating system. All three projects started last spring and are scheduled for completion at some point this fall. Changes coming soon to Union
On March 1, students will begin to see big changes to the Union building. Construction will start as phase one of the Union renovation project aims to redo the west half of the Union gym. Phase one of the planned construction focuses on developing a new gathering place for the intercultural development programs. The remodeled area will include office space, conference space and reception space, creating a common space shared by the Center of Intercultural Teaching and Learning, the international education department and the multi-cultural affairs office.
