Race walk to take Emery to nationals for seventh time
Siana Emery qualified for her seventh NAIA National Championship in the first race walk meet of the season held in the Roman Gingerich Recreation-Fitness Center on Saturday. The co-ed field of 11 that lined up on the south side of the track at 11am included race walkers from Cornerstone, Concordia, Rio Grande and Goshen College, as well as three unattached competitors. “On your marks, get set, go” was the underwhelming start, and the competitors were off, hips swaying, arms pumping, heads gliding forward, oddly still. Maple Leafs compete in National Championships
Siana Emery highlighted a group of four Maple Leaf track and field competitors with a fourth place finish in the national championships last Friday in Brookings, South Dakota. The junior race walker finished with a time of 15:39.98, her second fastest time of the season. She finished as the first athlete not from Judson University, as the Eagles claimed the top three spots of the event. Track and field continues strong indoor season
Saturday proved important for track and field athletes as three Maple Leafs finished with personal records. The eventful weekend opened Saturday morning as the Maple Leafs hosted their second race walk competition of the year. Junior Siana Emery continued her race walk success as she took the top spot in the 3000 meter race with a time of 15:29.97, a personal record. Friday, Jan. 18 proved a successful night for the Goshen College racewalk team as both athletes qualified for the NAIA national meet in Brookings, South Dakota. GOSHEN, Ind. and ANGOLA, Ind. – Friday evening and Saturday afternoon proved action-packed as the Goshen College men’s and women’s race-walkers and track and field members opened their 2018 campaign. Track continues to break school records
Ryan Smith, a senior, and Lindon McDonald, a first-year, both broke their own school records while Goshen won three events at the Trojan Invitational at Taylor University on Saturday. Smith set the school mark in the 5000 meter with a time of 14:57.27 which was also good enough to take first in the event. This past weekend, Siana Emery, a first-year, and Sawyer Biddle, a junior, punched their tickets to Johnson City, Tennessee to compete in the NAIA National Championships from Mar. 2-4. Numerous stellar performances highlighted the Goshen College men’s and women’s track and field meet this past Saturday as the team took part in the Hanover College Invitational. The men finished with a total of 21 points, earning them a 12th place finish. The women finished the day by registering just 3 team points and taking a last place finish. Every athlete dreams of being called an “All-American,” and for two Goshen College race walkers, that dream came true last Friday, March 4th, at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Johnson City, Tennessee. 7.30 seconds was all it took for Christian Stevens, a senior, to match Goshen College’s record time in the 60-meter dash. This weekend, the race walking team traveled to Cedarville, Ohio to compete in the Cedarville College Invitational meet – without their head coach, Doug Yoder. Walkers Brad Sandlin (senior), Kolton Nay (senior), Mitchell Brickson (senior), Abby Dunn (junior), and Kayla Gray (sophomore) traveled alone to compete. Five Top Season Times for Seven Race Walkers
The Goshen College race walking team continued its strong spring season at home in the event hosted in the Rec Fitness Center. On Saturday afternoon, seven Maple Leafs athletes competed and five of them achieved their best times of the 2014 season. Four Goshen College Race Walkers Book Their Positions for Nationals
The start of the track and field season proved successful for the athletes that competed in Findlay, Ohio this past weekend. Four of the race walkers were able to achieve a set goal of obtaining a qualifying time for this year’s Nationals, to be held in Ohio.
