Senior statements: holding on and letting go
Four Goshen College seniors presented their senior statements during convocation on Monday. In their speeches, Anna Pasquarello, Errick McCollum, Piper Voge, and Steve Cress reflected on their experience at Goshen College. Pasquarello, a music technology major, stated that at first she didn’t really like Goshen College. “I didn’t fit in,” said Pasquarello. She had no Mennonite affiliations and wasn’t sure what she wanted to major in, but the college challenged her ideas about God, community, and travel. McCollum named first team All-American
In his fourth year donning the Goshen College uniform, Errick McCollum II, a senior guard, put together an incredible season. After a total of 31 games in his senior season, he averaged 25.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3 assists per contest. All of this accumulated into his being named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) First Team All American, as well as the Mid-Central College Conference (MCC) player of the year. McCollum Sets All-time Scoring Record for Men’s Basketball
Senior shooting guard, Errick McCollum II, solidified his name in Goshen College basketball lore with his record-breaking free throw shot on Tuesday, December 15, at the Roman Gingrich Rec-Fitness center. McCollum came into the game 23 points shy of Goshen’s all-time scoring record, which was held by Eric Walsh (’06). Playing the nationally ranked Saint Xavier University team, McCollum broke Walsh’s record of 2,277 points with just under two minutes remaining in the game. McCollum’s dunk highlighted on ESPN
Many onlookers saw Errick McCollum’s momentum-shifting dunk at the Goshen College men’s basketball game against Grace College on Jan. 5, but many more saw it after the game. The video, entitled “The Dunk,” quickly hit goleafs.net. However, the publicity didn’t stop there; the video continued to make a splash all over the Internet.
