Globe competes with top stations for six radio awards
The Indiana Broadcasters Association (IBA) has nominated Goshen College student-managed radio station 91.1 The Globe (WGCS) to compete for six awards in four categories of its 26th Annual Spectrum Awards. The Globe is competing for the Station of the Year category with two commercial radio stations: WMEE in Fort Wayne and WTHI in Terre Haute. New merit page unveils campus achievements
The Communications and Marketing Office rolled out the new Merit page over the summer. The website will track student achievements by awarding virtual badges accompanied with a brief description. Students can earn awards for making the dean’s list, participating in sports or going on SST. Hannah Bartel, a 2013 graduate, designed the badges. Globe, GCTV reap awards at competitions
Goshen College broadcasting students returned from spring break with more to flaunt than a temporary tan. Goshen’s radio station, 91.1 The Globe, and biweekly news program, The Correspondent, received recognition from two separate organizations over the weekend. Several representatives of The Globe traveled to New York City to participate in the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System conference. The weekend-long event consisted of a number of panels and workshops and included an awards ceremony. Six alumni received service awards
Six alumni received awards for their servant leadership during Friday’s chapel. Arthur DeFehr (’65), Vance George (’55) and Ahmed Haile (’79) were awarded with the Culture for Service award. This award recognizes alumni who have served or whose personal achievements are models of the Culture for Service motto. DeFehr has used his business skills to serve throughout the world, in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Somalia and Lithuania. Kennard Martin, “Leader of Service”
Every winter morning in 1976, a Goshen College student woke up at 5:30 a.m. to make doughnuts for the cafeteria. ARCHIVED Comm department continues bringing in awards
Adding to the numerous broadcasting and radio awards already won for the Goshen College communication department, GC student journalists racked up 15 awards in the Indiana College Press Association's annual awards for 2011, and The Record ranked second overall in its newspaper division. The awards were presented on Saturday, April 2 in Bloomington, Ind. Goshen College is in the association's Division III for non-daily newspapers with enrollment of less than 3,000. Alumni receive awards for living out core values
Seven alumni were recognized for their wide range of accomplishments last Friday morning, October 1st, when they were presented with the Culture for Service Awards, the Decade of Servant Leadership Awards and the Champion of Character Awards in the Church-Chapel. McCollum named first team All-American
In his fourth year donning the Goshen College uniform, Errick McCollum II, a senior guard, put together an incredible season. After a total of 31 games in his senior season, he averaged 25.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3 assists per contest. All of this accumulated into his being named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) First Team All American, as well as the Mid-Central College Conference (MCC) player of the year. The Record honored with 14 statewide awards
The Goshen College Record received 14 awards from the Indiana Collegiate Press Association, including first-place finishes for articles about trayless dining in the cafeteria and a champion snow skier who ended up on a very flat campus. Among smaller colleges across the state, the Record also received third place in the newspaper-of-the-year category for 2008.
