For the Record 1/19 – God doesn’t help Tim Tebow. Enough said.
This year, the National Football League and the American media were obsessed with Tim Tebow, the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos. The term “Tebowmania” quickly became part of American vocabulary. For those of you who don’t know, Tebow is also an evangelical Christian who publicly shares his beliefs both on and off the field. During every post-game interview, Tebow thanks Jesus first and foremost, then continues with questions. After touchdowns that he’s involved with, Tebow gets down on one knee, rests his head on his fist, and prays. “Tebowing” is now a thing people do at random times of...

Winning marathons a daily occurrence
Justin Gillette ran two marathons last weekend. He won them both. After finishing in two hours, 34 minutes and 50 seconds at a race in Sarasota, Fla. on Friday, Gillette got on a plane and flew back home to northern Indiana. Less than 24 hours later, he ran the Veterans Marathon in Columbia City, Ind. in two hours, 40 minutes and six seconds. Although he hopes to sometime run a marathon on back-to-back days again, Gillette will wait a little while. “I know I’ll do it again, because you hate to not do it again,” he said. “But I’m not...

Goshen College’s Linda Kaminskis named to IATA hall of fame
Goshen College athletic trainer Linda Kaminskis has recently been inducted into the Indiana Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame. Being inducted to the hall is a prestigious award; only about one or two trainers get inducted each year. According to the Indiana Athletic Trainers Association website, the selection process ensures that the nominees deserve the award. This process begins with athletic trainers nominating their peers for the award. The nominations then move on to a committee that decides which trainers meet the criteria that the association looks for in its winners. The criteria for an inductee involves being both a...

Bike-friendly surround sound
Strange. Unique. Individual. Fun. All of these words have been used to describe the “Party Chariot,” the chariot-esque implement that has been seen trailing behind a merlot-colored bike around campus. In essence, the Party Chariot is a set of speakers connected to a car battery and a cord that can attach to an mp3 player or portable CD player. The Chariot was designed by two students who happened to be rugball players. Thus it turned into a feature at rugball games and gatherings. This piece of Goshen College student history is handed down through the “generations,” each year getting passed...

Goshen Ultimate Summer League signups underway
Sign-ups for the third season of the Goshen Ultimate Summer League is underway. In 2009, Goshen College alums Krista Daniels and Craig and Kathy Glick Miller founded the league with a few other alums and friends. They hoped for 40 people to sign up. About 100 joined the league for its first year. Ultimate, also known as Ultimate Frisbee, uses a flying disc in a game similar to soccer and American football. Players throw the disc to advance it down the field against another team and attempt to score in an end zone. The Goshen league has had six teams...

How to turn the campus into a fairway
Now that it’s springtime in Goshen, you’ll probably start noticing groups of students wandering around campus swinging at tennis balls with golf clubs. Don’t be alarmed, they are only playing a unique college sport called campus golf. The game is simple and is played like Frisbee golf. “It’s easy to play, and doesn’t take many resources,” said Marshal Watson, a sophomore. All you need is a tennis ball (it’s safer than a golf ball) and a golf club. Players choose targets on campus and then try to get their ball to touch the target with the fewest amount of strokes....

March Madness infects GC
It’s March Madness for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and this year’s annual March Madness tournament has held some rather large, and sometimes bitter, surprises. For those of you who don’t know about the NCAA tournament, this is for you. The bracket system is simple: win or go home. It’s a single elimination system. There are 68 teams this year; teams who have done the best in the regular season play the worst teams right away. This advantage clearly favors the better teams, but also is a recipe for some surprises, such as having a number eleven seed...
