The Maple Leaf softball team dropped their third and fourth straight games on the road against Calumet College of St. Joseph’s in a twinbill on Tuesday.
In game one, the Leafs were held to just four hits as Calumet pitcher Alex Latronica, a first-year, tossed six innings of shutout softball and recorded her sixth win of the season. Goshen left-hander Maria Koshmider, a junior, pitched six innings giving up five earned runs on seven hits and striking out two to take the loss for Goshen (6-8).In game two of the doubleheader, the Leaf offense was held to seven hits from seven players in an 8-2 loss.
“We’re a young team and I feel like it’ll start to come together,” said all-conference catcher Kelsey Morris, a junior. “We just need to get that initial spark to set everything into motion.”
Saturday afternoon, the Maple Leafs traveled to Bluffton University for a doubleheader. Goshen was held to three hits in the first game by the host Beavers (10-10), falling 12-1. The Leafs tallied ten singles in the second game, including three from center fielder Melanie Meyer, a first-year, but dropped that game 14-4.
The Leafs travel to Siena Heights University (13-9) in Adrian, Mich., for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. this afternoon. Saturday will bring the home opener against Purdue University North Central (10-10). First pitch for that doubleheader at the Goshen College Softball Complex is set for 1 p.m.
