Still two back in MCC Race

Nov. 30, 2011. That was the last time the Goshen Maple Leafs won on the road, an 88-81 win at the Weikamp Center against Bethel. But with a 97-60 win over Mount Vernon Nazarene University, the Leafs snapped a seven-game skid to put their conference record over .500 and keep Goshen two games back in a wild Mid-Central College Conference race.

It was an impressive statistical game for both teams. The Leafs (18-9, 8-7) converted 51.5 percent from the field, knocked down 11 of 21 three-pointers, and out-rebounded the Cougars (9-18, 3-12) 50 to 38.

Geoffry Gilot, a junior guard, continues to play well for the Maple Leafs, tying his career high with 21 points Tuesday night. Kody Chandler, a first-year guard, went 5-for-7 from beyond the arc, tallying a total of 20 points, and the bench contributed 41 of the 97 points.

On the defensive side, the Leafs held the Cougars to only 33.3 percent from the field and 6-for-21 from three-point land.

As Goshen heads down the final part of the conference schedule this season, they need to continue their dominance at Gunden Gymnasium on Saturday as they take on Spring Arbor (15-12, 6-9), a team that has lost five straight games.

The last time these two teams met,  Saturday, Jan. 14 at Spring Arbor, the Leafs only converted 27 percent of their shots in a 60-48 loss.

Tip-off on Saturday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
