Hello from Kenwood! Yes it is true, I am writing to you from the isolation house itself. How am I doing, you might ask? Really not too bad and I am going to tell you why.
So we’ve all heard of the Big Four, right? Wash your hands, wear a mask, social distance and the other one. But what they have failed to mention to you all this time is the Big Four activities of isolation in Kenwood! Sit back, relax and enjoy a glimpse into the isolation lifestyle. Our first and favorite activity is COVID-19 jokes! In Kenwood house, we’ve actually formed our own little subgenre of humor called “oh no, do you have COVID-19??” In order to utilize this niche joke, you must first have contracted the coronavirus. I’ll give you a second… Okay, got it? Now, all you have to do is literally anything. If you cough, I can say “oh no, do you have COVID-19???” If you want to try some of my food, I can say “ummmm, are you going to give me the coronavirus?” You see, the joke is funny because in this scenario, we both already have COVID-19 and therefore can’t give it to the other.
Piggybacking on that first one is an activity for those of you who like to live life on the edge! We all know that two of the symptoms of COVID-19 are shortness of breath and coughing. Well, if you want to spice things up try coupling those with a good belly laugh. Even when I’m not sick, sometimes I laugh so hard I can’t breathe, but when you have COVID-19, those kinds of laughs make you feel like you might actually die. But like, die because you’re so joyful? It’s a weird feeling. You should try it.
Our third activity is Sitting On The Porch Swing™. Have you always thought that you have an old soul or felt like you were born in the wrong generation? Well do I have the activity for you! When you Sit On The Porch Swing™, you can strike up a conversation with a passerby, yell at kids to get off your lawn (so they don’t get COVID-19), watch the leaves change color or give the air a sniff and try to figure out what type of potato the Rott is cooking up that day. You also get bonus points if a friend sits with you because then you look like an old married couple.
Last, but not least, we take vitamins. Here at Kenwood, we’re poppin pillies left and right. The dynamic duo is vitamin D and zinc, and those work extra well because we wash them down with Emergen-C. I’m not ashamed to admit that my favorite part of the day is when Suzanna, Samuel and I zinc up!
I believe by the time anyone reads this, I will be out of Kenwood and trucking around campus again, but if Goshen’s Big Four don’t quite cut it, I hope whoever takes my place continues the legacy of the big four at Kenwood.
