As leaves begin their change,
At even the first hint ofgreen moving to orange,
I find myself in a
familiar place.
I think I’ve been here before!
I am welcomed without question.
Honey-colored light filtered
through tree leaves,
dancing over still-green grass
In speckled shadows.
The soft leaves that fall
serve as the doormat
of the house that I build,
the brittle twigs as its walls,
as I play without a thought
of the air growing cool.
I am called inside
for a bath and matching pajamas.
The blueprint of many days
that sit in my memory
as I am reminded of how
simple it is to be human.
