This is an acrylic painting that I made for my Painting II class this semester. The initial prompt was very broad, allowing me to paint whatever I wanted. Over the summer, I came up with a composition that I had been dying to paint, a female fish freshly cut open at the belly. I wanted this to symbolize how women are viewed by those who are pro-life, prioritizing the life of the baby rather than the mother. To have this come across, I wanted to make sure the roe of the salmon were shown to have it be the focal point of the piece.
