Women’s volleyball celebrate series sweep
Despite a shaky start to the season, Goshen College Women’s Volleyball swept the season series against St Francis, beating the Cougars 3-2 on Saturday in Fort Wayne This was the first time that the Maple Leafs have swept the season series with the Cougars since 2015. It was also the first time they had a series sweep at all and a five-set win on the road since 2019. Bollinger steps into new role
Jeff Phillips, former head coach of the men’s volleyball team, was announced this summer to be the head coach of the women’s volleyball team at Goshen College. His assistant coach for the past two seasons, Wyatt Bollinger, was promoted to head coach the men’s team. Bollinger ’23 played as a setter during his time at GC. He shared his excitement to take the position. He said, “It worked out great for me. Phillips steps down from men’s volleyball
Last week, Jeff Phillips, director of volleyball, announced to the men’s team that he would be stepping down as their head coach. Phillips will stay on as head women’s volleyball coach. Phillips said that when he first interviewed for the head women’s volleyball coach position, “it was pitched to me to do both,” he was adamant that he did not want to because it would be “very difficult to give 100% to both programs.” He decided to become an assistant coach for the men and take the head coach position for the women’s team. Volleyball highlights from 2023 season
The Goshen College volleyball team ended their season on Saturday with a 3-0 loss to No. 17 Bethel University. After the Pilots won the first set 25-13, the Leafs almost captured a win in the second set — but lost 25-23. They then lost 25-11 in the third set. Goshen ended the season 8-24, with more wins than the past three seasons combined and its most wins in a season since 2017. With mere seconds to play in a scoreless first half against Madonna University last Saturday, Felipe Carli found himself with the ball just outside the center circle.
