Softball outmatched by nationally-ranked Marian
GOSHEN, Ind. — The Goshen College softball team was seemingly overpowered this past Friday against the NAIA’s third-ranked Marian University Knights losing 4-1 and 13-2 at the John Ingold Athletic Complex. Senior Alexis Carpenter threw a complete game in the first of two sitting down 16 of 17 batters through three innings. MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — The Goshen College softball team finished the long trek to Mount Vernon Nazarene University to no avail as the Leafs dropped both games of the doubleheader by scores of 4-1 and 8-0. Pitcher Alexis Carpenter, a senior, showcased her talents on the mound once again as the team’s ace by going the distance for the Leafs. Softball earns first conference victory over USF
GOSHEN, Ind. — The Goshen College softball team recorded 26 hits to grab a win in two tries against the University of St. Francis this past Saturday at the John Ingold Athletic Complex. CHANDLER, Ariz. — Spring break was not all Netflix and naps for the Goshen College softball team as they travelled to various parts of Arizona to play nine games, matching the program’s record for spring break wins with five. The Goshen softball team used a three-run opening inning in the second game of an afternoon doubleheader to come away with a split against conference opponent Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Tuesday afternoon. The Goshen College softball team hosted conference opponent Huntington University for an afternoon doubleheader on Tuesday, with the Leafs falling to the Foresters 6-4 and 5-1. The pitching duo of juniors Alexis Carpenter and Brooke Maes along with the hot bat of Jenna Thompson, a sophomore, helped the Goshen College softball team finish 3-3 in their spring trip to Arizona. The three wins are the highest win total of any spring break trip in the past five years for the Leafs and places them just three victories shy of their win total from last season. As a young girl growing up in Agua Dulce, California, Krista Sutliff hit, ran, stole and slid knowing that was her destiny. No matter how tough it became, she always got up, patted the dirt off herself and kept working to be the best she could be.
