MLK study day: A review of the weekend
According to DaVonne Kramer, diverse student programs coordinator, the Martin Luther King Jr. Day events appear to have been a success. “I believe it was a huge success. This was my second time helping to organize and I’ve received a lot of beautiful feedback on how it went,” said Kramer. Events spread over two days attracted large numbers of student, faculty and community members. Be Brave, Show Grace: Martin Luther King Jr. Study Day
Every year a committee of staff, faculty and administration meet in order to find ways to integrate the local Goshen community with the college campus to facilitate intercultural communication. The committee has decided that the best way to do so has been the Martin Luther King Jr. Study Day. MLK Celebrated in Annual Study Day
In celebration of the famous civil rights activist, Goshen College will host its annual Martin Luther King Jr. all-school Study Day, emphasizing the principle's characterized by King's work on Monday. Prior to the Study Day events, the MLK celebration will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday, when Goshen College and Hesston College alumnus Anthony Brown performs, "I Go on Singing: Paul Robeson's Life in His Words & Songs." The 90-minute performance features the story of an American hero and champion for peace and justice during the 1940's. MLK day events represent a range of voices on campus
With the overarching theme of “Hope, History, and Change,” Goshen College celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day with festivities that ranged from poetry readings to luncheons. Dr. Vincent Harding, a civil rights leader, historian, theologian and peace activist joined the campus in celebration and discussion of multiculturalism and servant leadership. The celebration started on Sunday with a class lecture and community conversation featuring Dr. Harding. Dr. Vincent Harding to head MLK festivities
As a part of Martin Luther King Jr. Day activities, civil rights pioneer Dr. Vincent Harding will speak to the Goshen College community in the Church-Chapel on the theme of “Hope, History and Change” at convocation on Monday, Jan. 16. Harding was a close friend of Martin Luther King Jr. while living around the corner from him in Atlanta, Ga. He drafted King’s speech, “Beyond Vietnam,” given on April 4, 1964 at Riverside Church. Goshen College Celebrates Martin Luther King Jr.’s Legacy
Goshen College’s annual celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day was no let-down. Held throughout the day on Monday, the festivities began with a spoken word coffeehouse followed by singing and conversation. Over the course of the day it became apparent that Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy has not been lost on Goshen College students, faculty and staff nor the larger Goshen community.
