2024 Maple Leaf Awards
For the fourth consecutive year, Record staff members from both fall and spring semesters voted on six categories to recognize Maple Leafs for their exceptional athletic accomplishments. Congratulations to all those awarded and nominated! Athlete of the Year: Mercy Chebet Chebet, a junior, put up All-American performances in both cross country and indoor track (women’s 5000 meter run). She also qualified for nationals in the 3000 meter run and 4×800 relay. She was named Everence Student-Athlete of the week a whopping five times, the most of any athlete. Excellence rewarded
Goshen College held the annual LEAFYs Awards this past Sunday, honoring the athletic and academic achievements of student-athletes throughout the 2022-23 seasons. The emcee for the event was Vince Turner, a former sports journalist for the Elkhart Truth and a broadcaster for 13 years who covered play-by-play for both local high school teams and Notre Dame events. The LEAFYs featured many categories of recognition for athletes and teams across GC. 2023 Maple Leaf Awards
Three years ago, The Record began an annual tradition of honoring the best of Goshen College’s athletic department. Staff of The Record voted on each of these categories, recognizing our Maple Leafs for their hard work on the field. Congratulations to all winners and nominees! Athlete of the year: Nelson Kemboi This year, Kemboi was named All-American in Cross Country for the third consecutive year after his performance at the NAIA National Championships.
