Brew invites community for monthly Sri Lankan and Indian Meal
As any coffee-addicted college student knows, the Brew is a happening place. But it was more than just a hot drink that led over 130 customers to downtown Goshen’s coffee shop this past Sunday. They were there for the curry. Thushan Hemachandra and his girlfriend, Jill Stoltzfus, were the chefs behind the counter, cooking up plates of jasmine rice, chicken tikka masala, potato curry and eggplant curry. For a little over eight dollars, customers could choose between three large-plate options of Sri Lankan or Indian food. Lines stretched almost to the door, with some patrons waiting for half an hour...

The Pumpkinvine Nature Trail has a new completed section, which connects Middlebury to Shipshewana. Bikers, runners or walkers will now be able to travel 17 miles to Shipshewana, nearly all of that on finished trail. The new section, which was engineered and constructed by DLZ Indiana, LLC, and Walsh & Kelly, Inc, spans six miles and nearly doubles the length of the developed portions of the trail. This is the longest section of the trail that has been completed at one time. Only a few more sections of the Pumpkinvine have yet to be completed, and are slated to be...

Born hopes the event will jumpstart student involvement. “I hope students recognize that they are welcome to...

‘Music Together’ for children and parents
Goshen College is launching a local chapter of a national music program called “Music Together,” a curriculum designed for young children and their parents. The program has the potential to move beyond the GC campus and out into the community. This new program provides opportunities to strengthen family bonds, learn new life skills through musical instruments and songs, and enrich children’s vocabulary at an early age. Brian Wiebe, director of GC’s music center, and Deb Kauffman, director of Community School of the Arts, have brought this new, research-based program to the Goshen College campus and community. Trolley yourself across towns
Goshen College students have a reputation of being avid bikers. But what happens when biking isn’t possible? What if it’s raining, or you need to transport bags of groceries? What do you do if you don’t have a car? The Elkhart-Goshen Interurban Trolley is one solution, and can now take you even further than Goshen or Elkhart. According to the Interurban Trolley website, “The Trolley provides easy, affordable public transit along the corridors connecting Elkhart and Goshen and major points in between these two cities.” The trolley stops right by campus on College Ave. in between 8th and 9th streets,...

Over 500 people gathered in the auditorium of Goshen High School last Tuesday for a city council meeting about the inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity as a protected civil right. After the six-hour meeting, filled with nearly 150 people speaking to the council, the city council voted 4-3 against the petition. Gouin nurtures theatrical side of Goshen
Laura Gouin is majorly involved in the cornerstones of Goshen's local theatre scene, including New World Arts and Center Stage Academy. Photo provided by Laura Gouin. Laura Gouin has acted in a movie with Mel Gibson and is one of very few Goshen residents to be listed on the Internet Movie Database, but before she ever walked on a stage, she was tripping over everything. “The only reason actually I’m in theater is because I’m clumsy,” Gouin said. “I mean, that’s really the reason. I used to trip on threads of the carpet, fall up stairs, run into walls. My...
