The women’s volleyball team defeated Saint Francis in a conference match last Saturday in three games, 25-23, 25-12 and 25-22. The victory continues a three year winning streak against Saint Francis, and brings the Leafs to a 2-1 record in conference play.

The two teams were evenly matched during the first game, which contained a number of long rallies and resulted in a 22-22 tie before the Leafs pulled ahead by two to secure the game. The Leafs took a commanding lead in the second game, leading the entire game and pulling ahead 22-9 before the game concluded with a 25-12 score.

The third game was much closer, with Goshen trailing by a few points towards the beginning. After gaining some momentum, the Leafs closed the gap and pulled ahead 16-14. Saint Francis answered and brought the score to 23-22, challenging the Leafs to call a time out. The Leafs secured the game with a 25-22 score, bringing their overall record to 7-2.

Senior, Peni Acayo,  had 22 kills on 44 attempts with just three errors, hitting .432 on Saturday afternoon. She also marked 19 digs, just one shy of the team-high of 20, by Morgan Broderick.

The Leafs will be back in action this weekend at the Indiana Wesleyan Tournament through September 17th and 18th.
