The Goshen College baseball team played through a tough week of baseball, losing two double headers to the University of Saint Francis Cougars, only to see their non-conference game against Siena Heights canceled due to the weather.
Last Thursday, the team headed to Fort Wayne to face off against Mid Central College Conference rival University of Saint Francis in a double header. The first game resulted in a Saint Francis victory with a score of 12-1, with the sole Maple Leaf point coming from a solo homer hit by junior Nick Wesman in the fifth inning. The second game resulted in a Saint Francis win as well, with a score of 8-0.On Sunday, the Maple Leafs hosted University of Saint Francis for another double header. In the first game the Maple Leafs were able to hold off the University of Saint Francis, but by the third inning the Cougars pulled away and ended the game with a score of 4-12. Scoring for the Maple Leafs were senior Omar Hernandez with two runs, with Wesman and sophomore Mike Milligan adding one run each. For the second game, the Cougars were able to take the game by scoring three runs in both the third and fourth innings to end the game with a score of 13-3. Freshman Josh Schlabach scored two runs, and Hernandez added one run.
After the double headers, the Maple Leafs’ record stands at 10-33 and 4-14 in the MCC conference. The Leafs will play again today, Thursday, April 21, in their last home game of the season against MCC conference leaders Taylor University.
