The Goshen softball team has had a busy week playing 6 games and getting rained out for another starting last Thursday. On Thursday, the team traveled to Huntington, Ind. to face off against conference rival Huntington University for a double header. Huntington played strong games to come away with two wins with scores of 10-2, and 10-4.
On Saturday, the Maple Leafs hosted the University of Saint Francis for MCC play. In the first game the Maple Leafs pulled ahead in the first inning by scoring 3 runs. The Leafs were able to hold Saint Francis to less than two runs thanks to the pitching of junior Jessica Reed who recorded her fifth win of the season. In the second game the tables were switched at first as Saint Francis took an early two point lead in the top of the first. Then in the first pitch of the bottom inning sophomore Stacey Klein hit her first career home run to cut Saint Francis’ lead by one point. The Maple Leafs then took the lead and eventually the game in the fifth inning by scoring three more runs. Sophomore Maria Koshmider pitched for all seven innings, only giving up three hits and striking out five, this was her third pitching victory.On April 12th the Leafs hosted Taylor University for an MCC double header. The Leafs played good games but it wasn’t enough to beat Taylor University in two close games, with scores of 3-4, and 4-5. These games are only the third and fourth time the Leafs have lost at home.
After the week of games the Maple Leafs record stands at 11-13, 5-7 in the MCC. The Leafs will play again on Thursday April 14th as the team travels to Rensselaer Indiana to play St. Joseph’s College at 3 p.m.
