The Goshen College softball team won three out of five games this past week. On Thursday, March 31, the Maple Leafs split a double header with conference opponent Indiana Wesleyan University. Another twin bill was scheduled for Friday, April 1 against Calumet College of St. Joseph. Goshen lost the first game, and the second was canceled due to rain. The Lady Leafs then swept the Calvin College Knights on Saturday, April 2 in yet another double header.

Thursday held two outcomes, as the Maple Leafs lost the first 0-9, but came right back in the second with an equally commanding 8-0 victory. In the Wildcats’ victory, they had a total of 13 hits, taking full advantage of four Maple Leaf errors. IWU scored in each of the five innings, and the game was cut short by the run rule. The same rule cut the second game short after six innings. Top Goshen performers were sophomores Kat Berg and Stacy Klein, each of whom went 3-4 from the plate.

On Friday, Goshen took on the Calumet College Crimson Wave in a double feature, of which only the first game was played. The Crimson Wave hit three home runs in the only game, as they narrowly beat the Maple Leafs 6-5. The second game was equally close (8-7 in favor of Calumet College) before it was called off due to steady rain in the fifth.

Goshen finished off a busy week with a third double header against Calvin College on Saturday. The Maple Leafs came away with two convincing victories against the Knights by scores of 9-4 in the first game and 6-1 in the second.

After these games, Goshen moves to 9-7 overall (3-1 in conference). The softball team continues conference play on Thursday, April 7 with a double header at Huntington University. Their next home contest is a double header this Friday against Indiana University South Bend at 3 p.m.
